Non-believers come here for the same reason 'believers' come: they want to prove they are right and the 'other' is wrong. For believers this egoic desire to WIN gets rationalized by saying it is 'salvation' they are 'offering.' In reality someone who actually embodies Truth has no desire to prove anything to anyone, knowing that in everyone's own time Truth will be made apparent. Embodiers of Truth share the fruits of their understanding with right action and words of peace and compassion; never with division or competition, or arguments, or arrogant self-righteousness. Believers and non-believers alike are usually still in the infantile stages of ego. The Truth is experienced as Oneness with all of humanity, as Christ demonstrated. Christ and Christianity are not one and the same. If there is a need to be right, there is no Christ dwelling within. (believers and non-believers alike). When we actually love with unconditional agape All of our brothers and sisters as ourselves, THEN and only then we can say we are embodiers of Truth.
Blessings

I don't specifically come to the religion topic, but when one of the questions shows up on the home page, I do stop in. I'll tell you why I do it: I feel very strongly that there is no god. I am surrounded every day by a society where 96% of the people claim they do believe in a god. It's on the money, it's in the Pledge of Allegiance, it's impossible to get away from. I am trying to understand why so many people buy into this theory, a theory which goes to the very meaning of life, with far less information than they'd use when buying a refrigerator.
I am never disrespectful, but please don't throw the word "ignorant" around when you're talking about people who are asking for a little more than vague talk of "faith" when trying to get believers to at least think about this a little. Face it: most people are the same religion as their parents, as their grandparents, as the family going back as far as anyone remembers. You believe your religion is the only right one and is the best one. Most have never, ever, given this much thought or question why they believe what they do. That's all I ever try to do--get people to use their brains and think! If you believe in a god, isn't that what it would want you to do with it?? If, after you've done some reading and thinking, you still choose to believe this stuff, OK. But I have no use for people who are so damn sure they're right when they are unwilling to even consider other ideas and views.
I tried to add this yesterday but it didn't show up: I don't want to hear about how many people have believed something or for how many centuries they believed it. People believed for thousands of years that the earth was flat. Didn't mean they were right, did it? For how many thousands of years did people believe it was impossible for humans to build a machine that could fly, or go to the moon? Wrong again. Just because a large number of people have believed in something for a very long time does not mean it's correct. You can't "vote" on whether something is a fact: it either is or it isn't.

OK, so what I did here is change the wording to point out that religious wack-jobs do the SAME THING to other places in this site..........
"Why do some people come to this topic (gay, lesbian, bi, transgendered)when they don't believe?
I ask myself why those who don't believe in gays, lesbians, bi, transgendered and so on, keep coming to this category, just to cuss, to swear, to be vulgar, insult others, and put down other's beliefs, and often genuine questions....
Do they have a life, nothing to do, or are they simply full of evil? If one has nothing helpful to say, they should just go to a topic that concerns them that is all. So far all they've proven his how "ignorant and stupid" they are.
Can some one intelligent tell me?"

Because it has to do with reading material they want to seem intelligent. Actually, it's a low key malice with bitterness for a life unrealized along their lines. So the next best dodge is to appear widely, socially acceptable to a manifestly reprobate, callous populace.
Most are full of evil. So this 'adulation' if you will, gives them something in place of love, family, the things other people might have in a normal life. Granted, just because you have a wife and kids doesn't qualify you as a model citizen.
Scads of gangsters have those too. And we all know these aren't going to contribute to the national well being. I saw a video of a Texas female cop stopping a big hispanic male in a pickup with his little girl.
( I don't generally watch this kind of thing, but wasn't really surprised. Human nature. )
She had a video camera going in the patrol car. The guy was carrying a heavy quantity of drugs for transport. I think it was kilograms. Anyway, he beat the female cop down into the ground.
So, yes; generally people are full of evil. Take your cue from the book. Not people. That's why it's hated. Because it's true. Evil hates truth. Hope this helps.

They probably come in here to defend things like this. I am a christian and now thanks to you and many like you I can not make it known that God is love because instead I spend my time trying to fix the situations where so called "christians" call people names and are degrading to other people. Perhaps they are curious, you are right, this is a religion and spirituality answer site, but does that mean that I should never go into an African website, an Australian website, what do I need to know about their cultures for they do not concern me???? Short sightedness and treating people like less of a person because of what they believe is not very Godly and I ashamed that you are trying to speak out against anyone who does not believe in the same God as you, but I guess you can ask this question of me since even if you are christian it is very apparent that we are speaking of different God's. My God does not hate anyone for not believing, that is a choice that each person gets to make. I am sorry if this sounds rough, I do not want to offend you. It is just a little rough to take when I try to tell people that God is love and then their are people out there who say they believe in God but then are mean and treat people so badly and think that you can only be interested in religion or the questions that come with it if you are a religious person. I am not a meteorologist but I check out weather.com all the time. I think that you may want to look for more love in your heart to give to all God’s children and not only Your "chosen" group.

I know how you feel, but your idea of what this topic should be is not what it is intended for. This is not strictly for Christianity, Judaism, or other "God" religions. This is for people who have any belief in anything. This is for people who don't believe. This is for people who are searching to believe. This is the Religion and Spirituality section. There are no specific guidelines on what that entails. Just as most of the other topics have some of the same issues. Before I posted in Religion and Spirituality all the time I was posting in Pregnancy/Parenting in the Pre-Teen/Teen section. It was supposed to be used for parents of teens and pre-teens, but it has become a haven for pregnant teens, teens with questions, and a ton of other teenaged related sex talk. It's intentions aren't clear and thus they all get overrun by people who are looking to find answers sometimes in the wrong place or who are out for shock value.

Even though they don't know it yet, they are looking for something to believe in and haven't found it yet. So let them come and ask questions and cuss and be rude. All of us crazy, ignorent christians will just have to stand pat and be kind. Because the bottom line is that if there was nothing to my faith in the living God, then why all the uproar? I think we're onto something here and believers have been for over two-thousand years. Try to get a car warranty for that long!!!!!!!!

Well, well well, isn't that the pot calling the kettle black?
Trying to ask why other people are being so rude, and then calling them stupid and ignorant. Very nice.
Nowhere does it say that one has to have a religion to visit this section, it actually makes more sense for a non-theist to be asking questions on here of a theists faith.
And, if anything, this question does not belong on here because it is addressing those of no faith, those sans religion, so it really does not fit the religion category.

Well, I must say, as a neutral person (I'm a christian, but I don't do the whole "You have to believe what I believe, because the bible says" thing.), You ask an opinionated question, they give there opinion (no matter how rude it may be), and they don't like seeing topics about you insulting them. It's not a matter of them being evil, because they may think you are evil for trying to stuff their brains with something they simply don't relate to. So, why can't you accept them for not being christians, and they accept you for being a christian?

First of all, you are being very judgemental in your comment that they are "ignorant and stupid" and that is uncalled for. That said, did you even stop to consider the fact that this may be the only place that they do hear about God and begin to know about Him. Who are we to judge that some seeds planted here in the minds of others, will not take root and sprout one day?. With God, all things are possible!
