I resently found out i have a cavity (i was looking in the mirror) and i am totally terrified of dentists. The drills they use give me the creeps. ...It's not a big cavity, just fairly small. Is there anything i can do at home to take care of it and avoid the dentist?

It may be a small cavity now, but that doesn't mean that it will stay that way. Are you going to wait until it starts hurting, and then go to the dentist to get a root canal? Trust me, you would rather have a small filling done over a root canal any day. And just because it looks like a small cavity from the outside of the tooth doesn't mean it's small inside the tooth. I would rather go to the dentist for a small cavity that's painless than wait till I was in pain - it's cheaper and less time consuming to go now before the decay gets out of control. A cavity is an infection in your tooth, and you wouldn't leave an infection in another part of your body to just continue to grow. Go to your dentist and have it looked at, it might not even be a cavity, and get a cleaning. Preventing the disease is easier and cheaper then treating the disease.

no, you need to have the dentist do it.

i have had plenty of dental work and still feel the same way about dentists. but the drills they use now are much better than they used to be. it'll be over before you know it.

you don't want to wait, b/c the decay can spread to other teeth and then you'll need the dentist even more. going sooner rather than later will mean a shorter dentist visit!!

I think you should go to the dentist. In recent years, they have updated their practice so that the work they do causes much less pain. Plus, you can choose a dentist that works with sedatives so that you are not even aware of the work he is doing.

Bottom line- go to the dentist - the more you wait, the more screwed up your mouth will be.

Nope. Gotta go. The more you wait, the more the tooth will decay. Then, you'll have to get a root canal which is a more painful dentist visit.
get it over with now.
