Yes I am sorry to be so vague. I am speaking of illegal immigrants, not folks who were born here or have green cards.

It is not that HARD! Millions have done it and they can get free legal aid to help them.
They don't want to wait and take the time to do it, And that is what it boils down too.

One can only assume that you mean Mexicans that come to our country. First of all, many Mexicans do legally immigrate and eventually apply for citizenship. However, the application process takes time; many applicants are still waiting for the government to respond.

Secondly, many other Mexicans immigrate legally and obtain temporary visas and the "green card" to work and to earn money to send home to their families. It is not their intent to stay, so there isn't really any benefit for them to become citizens. If there is an objection to temporary workers in this country, the problem isn't with the workers or even with the laws of the US. The problem is the sheer mess that is the Mexican economy: no one leaves their country lightly; they only do so when conditions are so poor that travelling to another country to find work seems much easier than staying and watching their families starve.

It can also never be emphasized enough that not all the so-called "Mexicans" are even Mexican! It is a horrible insensitivity and slur to all the different ethnic groups from Central and South America to lump them all together as Mexicans.

Finally, as to the question of English, those Mexicans and other hispanics that stay in the US and raise families here will learn English the way all of our ancestors did. The first generation tends to learn it poorly if at all. Their children, the second generation, will learn it much more easily because of their exposure to English in schools and on TV... and because speaking the dominant language of a country is a key factor for success. By the third generation, the grandchildren of the original immigrants will not only speak English as fluently as any other native speaker, but many of them will be decidely less than proficient at speaking the language of their grandparents.

i am hoping you aren't any further asking a rhetorical question, so i will answer why a range of of human beings that're supportive of immigrants commonly have self belief that a number of the staunchly anti-immigration individuals are disingenuous. i imagine the rationalization being that this variety of number of human beings that're complaining about unlawful immigration are also adamant that there should not be any will enhance contained in the variety of criminal immigrants allowed. Mexico (alongside with about a dozen different international locations, customarily also in Latin united states, yet some in Asia, plus Britain and Canada) is excluded from the fairway Card lottery. the wealthy and nicely-knowledgeable from those international locations can, for sure, get NAFTA or H1 visas, yet no longer the undesirable. The "drained, undesirable, wretched souls, etc." from Mexico and those different international locations can enter on condition that they have an instantaneous buddy who's already a citizen, or maybe then truly after an quite lengthy wait (about 15 years often times). even as maximum of our ancestors got here in, immigrants did not pick a visa. they purely had to bypass a verify at Ellis Island to guarantee that they were no longer diseased or insane, no longer convicted criminals, and not in any respect bodily disabled to the point that they does no longer be in a position to generate income. truly 2% of them were despatched back. those days, truly 5% of entrants win the fairway Card lottery. in case you assert that you're truly adverse to unlawful immigration, and then you also pick a gadget which makes criminal immigration no longer accessible for most folk, i imagine you do open your self as a lot because the accusation that you're particularly purely anti-immigrant. i imagine almost all and distinctive available might want to be prepared to help a crackdown on unlawful immigration, if criminal immigration were made a lot more straightforward.

It's so easy to criticize someone for not speaking English in United States.
Fact: English has never been legally the official language of the United States.
The Europeans (my ancestors) invaded America and destroyed the lives of many Native Americans. Our ancestors are not technically "legal" that arrived during the Colonial Period.
The Europeans stole the lands that belonged to many prosperous peoples of North America.
Many immigrants that arrived to the US at the end of 19th century had no visas and little or no documentation. They were accepted at Ellis Island for various socio-economic reasons and were treated bad by the establishment. This is similar to the way that Mexicans are being treated at the moment. In time, we wil learn to live in peace with all who seek the economic benefits of the United States.

Because they can't- your ancestors got citizenship as soon as they got off some boat.
Today, no matter if you speak English, have a job, pay taxes, you CANNOT even apply for citizenship, unless you marry for papers.
Your laws are completely different from the laws even 20 years ago, let alone 200 years ago.
Marry for papers or be illegal is today's bottom line.
I don't want to be illegal, but I'm not marrying for papers!I'm marrying for LOVE!

Because current law doesn't allow most to become citizens within any reasonable amount of time. That's why the difference.

Immigrants' children learn English. That hasn't changed.

I think our government has made it so easy for them they don't need to go through the trouble of becoming citizens. Our laws are broken and our representatives are too busy padding their on pockets to care what happens. America.....We have been Sold Out.

Hey simpleton, some of us are Mexican, U.S born and speak English.

We work, pay taxes and even do community service and give back to our communities. Imagine a Mexican that gives back to their community, what a novel concept???

Because our government makes it too hard. You must have a certain amount of money to qualify, and for most the whole idea of coming here is to work because their families are very poor. So they cant come unless they have money, but they cant make good money unless they come here.
