Depends on what type of leisure activities/sports you like and what type of budget your working with.
Fireworks @ night in many places are usually a success with everyone...but during the daylight hours it varies according to your tastes/finances.
Ontario place in Toronto is one of my old time favs.

Port Credit Village at St. Lawrence park- July 1, 12 to 6 p.m.
Streetsville Cenotaph Square- July 1, 6 to 10:30 p.m. - fireworks!

If you could travel to Ottawa you'd be at the biggest bash in the country! If you're staying in Toronto area, I agree Niagara Falls would be my choice. Then in three days you can enjoy the other side's celebrations!

See the CN Tower, go to a baseball game (blue jays) or if the Toronto argonauts are playing you can watch football...ummm there is probably other things.
