It would seem to me you couldn't, because if you really didn't believe in god, why would you believe in satan? I'm just curious, I'm an atheist myself...

I'm not asking to be convinced to be a satanist, I'm just interested to hear what people think. I actually find a lot of satanic beliefs in line with my thinking, and wanted to see what satanists thought of being an atheist and a satanist. If I was going to take up a belief system, I surely wouldn't need people on Yahoo Answers to convince me!
Thanks very much for the intelligent answers that have been given...I'm just looking to learn.

I feel so sorry for you, because by the tone of your question you clearly have not been touched by the Lord. I will say a prayer for you tonight in the hopes that your soul will be spared an eternity of pain and suffering at the hands of the devil. May the Light find Its way into your heart.

Yes, you could be both an Atheist and a Satanist. Here is why:
Satanism is an extremely misunderstood word. A Satanist does NOT worship Satan, or even has to believe in Satan. Those who worship Satan are more correctly referred to as "devil worshippers", as Satanism is in fact something completely different.
Satanism is worship of the self. It represents learning, indulgence, and making your own way in the world (things which monotheistic religions frown upon, hence why they labeled it after the being that they believe represents pure evil).
As Atheism is belief in no gods, and Satanism is focused around the human self, then it is possible to be both an Atheist and a Satanist at the same time.

First, not all satanists are devil worshipers. That is a gross misconception created by modern-day groups who claims they are satanists that worship Satan the Christian figure.
Second, it is not logical to be both a satanist and an atheist simply because atheist are generalized as those that either don't acknowledge a deity or just don't know.

Satanism is not the belief in Satan by and large. The actual church of Satan is a humanist religion, and makes no claim to the supernatural. The followers are quite often atheists. Satan is used to represent certain philosophies about humanism, much like Cupid is used to represent love and Valentine's Day, even though hardly anyone believes in Cupid.

No you can not be, it is a contradiction, to be atheist means believing in NO deities, well satan is not of this world (and the definition of deity has to do with power) so that would classify satan as a deity (if existed). So you can not believe in a deity (satan in this situation) and be an atheist... BUT you can be an agnostic (believe in a diety, just not sure what or which one or ones) and be satanist.

If you believe in the bible then you also believe that Satan is the leader of the spirits who rebelled against god and was cast down to tempt man. So if you don't believe in god then there would be no Satan. If there was no Satan how could you believe in him? If you are truly an atheist don't you know what you believe in and don't believe in or do you have to be told what not to believe in and not believe what is in your heart?

Satanism is worship of satan. They chant to satan, they believe in Satan and anyone who is involed in the church of satan believe in him no matter if it is just a human religion or not. Yo are playing with darkness.
If you are a Satinist then you are not atheist because Atheist dont believe in anything.
I am sorry you are an atheist because that means there is no hope for you. When your dead your dead, so you think.
I will pray for you and hope you find Jesus-

No an atheist does not believe in any god or organized religion. Satanism is a form of religion. You cannot be both.

From a humanistic standpoint, no, it would be contradictory. But we are more than just humans, we have a soul, and from a soul standpoint, we have a desire to serve a god - and whom we choose to serve is important and therein lies most people's conflict. As a monotheistic I believe the line of distinction was made very clear when we read the words, "He that believeth on him (Jesus Christ) is not condemned; but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."

to believe that there is a satan is to believe that there is a god, they go hand in hand you can not believe in one with out the other. Which would mean that if someone is a satanist, they do believe in god but rebuke him, therefore they are NOT athiest.
