Dog shampoo is designed not to damge their coat and not to irrate their skin.
It's only $1 or so at Walmart. Well worth it.

the reason that there are special shampoos for dogs is because the oils in a dog's coat protect it. Dog shampoos are formulated to not take away those oils. Regular shampoos also dry out the dog's skin, and can cause it to flake and itch. If you use regular soap, the results are even worse. If you must use soap, dilute it in the water, and do not put it directly on your pet.

I would never use soap. If I'm out of the doggie shampoo, I use a small quantity of a gentle human shampoo (like baby shampoo or an inexpensive clarifying type). Soap tends to make their coats look bad.

Yes! It is very important to use dog shampoo. Soap or people shampoo can cause skin irritation in animals. Their skin is made different then ours which is why there is shampoo specifically made for dogs. Stick with dog shampoo or you will cause your dog to have dry, irritated skin that may require a visit to your vet!! :-) Hope this helps

You can use whatever you want....soap, dishwashing liquid (which might be harder to rinse out, but it works), your shampoo, whatever. And a little advice....wash them in Head & Shoulders. It keeps fleas off of them without having to buy a flea collar or something. I know it works, because I've used it on every dog I've owned, whether they were indoor or outdoor pets. It works. And it keeps them smelling clean longer than dog shampoo.

Ha! I use pantene or herbal essence. My dogs are spoiled. Unless they have a dry skin problem or other coat complications i dont see a use for buying expensive dog shampoo. But BE SURE u dont wash their head it could get in their eyes, and that doesnt feel too good. if u really need to wash their head use tear free baby shampoo. still cheaper than dog shamp. smells better too.

No, not necessarily. You can try some shampoo for kids that does not contain alcohol, so it will not burn their eyes. But stay away from the bar soaps, it could irritate their skin.
