It really depends on how old it is. If you just getting a kitten from a pet shelter or something they should be at least 8 weeks old...in that case 2-3 times a day is fine. Just make sure you keep it on some sort of kitten food. Kittens that are just born need to be fed at least every 2 hours if they are not with thier mothers.

Kittens grow up very fast, so if it is weened properly and is eating solids this is what you do:
when you go to work and after the kitten has had its breakfast, you can just leave a bowl with food according to the prescribed amount on the tin or packet somewhere where the kitten can reach if it gets hungry during the day. And then feed it again when you get home. Remember adult cats sleep16 hours a day, so a kitten even more, so dont be to worried that all it will want to is eat.

It depends, has the kitten been weaned off it's mother and are you planning on feeding it moist or wet food. Usually twice a day is good, if healthy they will eat when they feel hungry or you can leave a bowl out and they can nibble as they wish. I have always left food out for my cats and I fill the bowl up as needed. Be sure to put down fresh water and if it is hot or it gets warm, you can drop some ice cubes in their water bowl to keep it chilled for a little while. Check it in the morning and gauge what was eaten when you get home, that can help give you an idea of what your kitten is consuming.

I would call a vet to be certain. If your kitten is weened and eating hard food, I always just free feed. I fill the bowl up and refill when it's empty. My cats never over eat and this way, feeding is low maintenance. Cats like regular routine, so if you are stable and come home around the same time every day and can play with the cat every day, go for it. There are a lot of cats that need good homes, and someone to love them.
Good luck!

I'd say if you got a cat older than a year then you could fill his bowl and he'd be fine, but getting a kitten when you aren't around isn't fair, not unless you can get an older cat to keep it company. kittens need LOTS of attention. They'll let you know they feel neglected by spraying and messing up your house. I'd say get an older cat first and once you're both settled into a routine and comfortable you can get a kitten. My vet said it was fine to just leave food in a bowl. I have a healthy 4 mo old little girl and we only feed her twice a day and she's fine. Like i said get and older cat first. That's what I did and they're both beautiful, happy, active WELL FED cats!

a kitten at 8 weeks old should be feed small meals 4 times a day gradually weaning them over months if your out all day it is not a good idea to have a such a young animal unless someone else is there to take care of it. May be you should consider taking on an older cat from a rescue centre

You can adopt an older pair of kittens (more than 2 months old) so they can keep each other company during the day. You would only have to feed them twice a day. It would be best though if you could wait to adopt until you had more time for them, or you lived with someone who would be around a bit more than you are.

Yes, when we got our cats at kittens we had to go home every dinner to feed them! Now they are older they only need feeding 2 times a day.
I recommend if you want a cat, get them older (maybe 1 year+) and get 2 so they will be quite happy all day while you are out at work

May I suggest an older cat and not a kitten. There are thousands of wonderful older cats that need loving homes desperately. Your local animal shelter would be the place to look for one or two. Most have been abandon because of over population because of failure to be a responsible pet owner. Get your animals spayed and neutered, help stop the wanton slaughter of tossed away ,inconvenient ,I'm moving ,BS excuses .for "getting rid" of a living ,loving animal.. I'm sorry it just makes me so angry when I see it every day. For me a pet is for life . Think about getting an older cat or maybe waiting until you have more time for a kitten. Good luck.

Feed your kitty in the morning before you go out to work, and leave clean water for her 24 hours a day. Leave a little catfood in a clean dish in case she fancies a snack, then feed her again when you come in from work. Another snack before you go to bed will be very acceptable. By 6 months old you will only need to feed twice a day. Dont feed dry food until she is six months old.
