So it's three days before payday, and I have no groceries, so I'm stick hunting through what I have to make some lunch.

I have peanut butter, but no bread.
Waffles, but no syrup.
A host of other varied condiments.
Ramen.

If I eat Ramen one more time I'm gonna puke.

So I cooked 2 Apple Cinnamon Waffles, put peanut butter and a bit of hot fudge ice cream topping, and made a sadwich out of it. Kinda tasted like Reeses cups on waffles-sammich. lol.

Would you eat this?

I wouldn't have used the ice cream topping LOL but the other part sounds good.

There are good ways to budget your money so you don't run into this issue (even if you don't get paid a lot). Ramen noodles are *very* unhealthy for you and there are alternatives. I'll give you a few here. Sorry if I'm giving you TMI, but I like sharing my secrets!

1. Clip coupons. But only clip them for things you USE. Don't clip a coupon for something you don't use then buy it because you have a coupon. You can save good money using coupons, and you can spend about 15 minutes Sunday morning doing it. I've saved up to $20 on a $200 grocery bill (for a family of 4) with coupons before.

2. Grocery shop for your main groceries only every 2 weeks, but shop to stock yourself up for the next 2 weeks (or 1 week if you prefer to shop weekly). The only thing you should return to the store for will be milk (if you drink it) and fresh fruit. No going to the store because you just don't "feel like" eating what you have at home.

3. Make sure you're buying things that have high fiber content - like fruits and grains. They fill you up sooner, are healthier for you and you really can save money if you eat more of these products.

4. Use "preferred customer" cards. I only shop at Albertson's for the most part, because I think they have the best deals.

5. Look through the circular of the store you go to - they send them out usually once a week for the upcoming week's sales. Try to match up coupons with products in the flyer, you can really save that way.

6. Buy store brands when possible. The only generics I don't buy are laundry detergent and dishwashing detergent. A box of a General Mills cereal for $3.99 has a store-brand equivalent for $1.99 - and the box is a lot larger.

7. Drink a lot of water! It's healthy for you and cuts down on snacking. Good way to save money.

8. Buy things that are easy to cook - chicken legs, pork chops, that kind of stuff. You can put them in a glass baking dish with some salt and pepper and bake them for a while. You can top them with a can of soup, even. Make sure you take leftovers for lunch when you go to work so you're not eating out all the time!

Sorry you're having to stretch your groceries - I used to have to do the same thing, but finally figured out a way to make it every 2 weeks with some to spare. It's a little more work, but definitely worth it when 3 days before payday you can make yourself some rice pilaf and baked chicken with broccoli instead of pb and waffle sammiches ;) Good luck!

yes. When I was 18 I moved out with a roomate and we were very poor, we drank 40's of Mickey's Malt Liqour and smoked brown schwag weed. If we had a dollar or two after that, Rally's ( a cheap fast food burger joint) was our best friend. We only had 4 things in the fridge and cupboards combined. Hot dogs (no buns), sugar, jelly and rice. So one time we boiled the rice and added the sugar and one time we cut up the hot dogs and heated them in a pan with the jelly. Sugar Rice and Jelly Hot Dogs! We were like malnourished little junkies. We all had jobs, but somehow Malt liquor and crappy weed was more important. We looked like little white crackhead hippies from Bosnia. Ah, the good old days, God I miss em...No, no I don't.

Absolutely. Sounds like something I would make when I'm trying to scrounge around for food, and I haven't been to the grocery store. I've even had cool whip, when I craved ice cream.

I would, but not as a meal...maybe for dessert. If you left the hot fudge sauce off, I'd eat it as a meal...sounds pretty good. :)
