quite a long time. i'm guessing but more likely at least a month, at most a year. and it would depend on how extensive the damage is, like how much drinking and in what amounts.

Recovery begins immediately. It also depends how much damage that has been done prior to the quit. Remember that the liver is the purification and the reservoir tank for the body. If the damage is extensive, shopping around for a new liver might be a better option.

Liver function tests and the increased fatty deposits will take months to resolve, but usually will if the damage is not full blown cirrhosis.
As for getting your life together...that may well take longer, but that's not the key...how WELL you do it, and how completely you right the wrongs and make amends for the wreckage you've caused, will determine your overall quality of life that follows down the road.
