try making them a tuna lasagne - really easy, and very tasty and not expensive.

1 x tin tuna
1 x tin chopped tomatoes
1 x onion
1 garlic clove
4 x large mushrooms
6 x lasagne sheets
2 x tbsp olive oil
1 x dspn plain flour
1/2 pint milk
50g cheese

slice the onions and garlic and mushroom, and saute in 1/2 the oil for a few minutes until soft. Stir in the tomatoes and tuna.

heat the other 1/2 of oil in a pan, add in the flour and stir to make a paste (roux), then little by little add the milk until you have a sauce the thickness of cream.

Grate the cheese.

Layer the tuna mixture, then lasagnes sheets in a wide dish, into approx 2-3 layers. Cover with your white sauce, and sprinkle over the grated cheese.

Cook for approx 40 mins at 180 degrees.

This will serve 3-4 adults, so you may need to do a little extra depending on how old your kids are. Feel free to add in peppers, courgette or other veg.

Enjoy!

I don't have any kids (I'm 23 and still at uni, on the verge of beginning a career) but I think I've learnt enough by now to know that kids shouldn't be fed constantly with pizzas, chips, (or any type of fast food) week in, week out. Why? It is not good for their health, and will lead to problems later on. I don't need to elaborate here; there is enough in the media and in good parenting sources to inform the interested. Leave the fast food comsumption to a once a week treat, or as a once-in-a-while reward for golden behaviour, or as a surprise that they least expect. Enforce rules where eating is concerned. Kids (especially those under 14) need to learn that healthy eating is fun and good for them (lots of fruit and veg); it has lasting positive effects, even though they will probably complain bitterly at first. There are plenty of meals that can be found anywhere to make a healthy weekly menu for your kids, that you can easily edit to keep the kids happy, not-bored, well-fed and above all, keeps you happy knowing that you've done a good job.

The Good Food magazine very often has excellent freebies and articles containing plenty of easy ideas that are handy for anyone who cooks for kids on a regular basis. Ideas that include favourite ingredients, for teatime, lunchboxes, puddings, meals that include all the family, not forgetting snacks and treats. I've provided 2 suggestions with my answer that may interest you. Get your kids to help with the cooking (it's fun!) and you can always stretch ingredients to feed everyone.

3. Cover the bowl with a fresh piece of cling film and microwave on High for 10 mins. Uncover, give it a stir, then microwave for 5-10 mins until the rice is cooked. Leave to stand for 5 mins before giving everything a final stir. Serve scooped straight from the bowl.

Try looking on the back label of campbells soup. Like cream of mushroom, chicken verde, and cream of celery or chicken. They have a variety of different ways to prepare meals. They are cheap and I've tried quite a few of them. Taste great! We love the chicken quesadilla casserole.

Try making homemade pizzas - you can get the kids involved & get them to use healthy toppings like peppers, tomatoes and olives!

Otherwise, try pasta dishes like spaghetti bolognese or even salads are great this time of year. Why not chop up some cucumber & carrots into batons & serve them with some kind of dip? Healthy finger food!

I was going to suggest kraftfoods.com too but since someone else suggested it, how bout trying some hamburger helper? they are cheap and you can get the meat in bulk and use it all up. I get like, 10 lbs of ground beef and make beef strogenoff, cheesy enchilada, etc..(I have 6 kids too)...of course you might want to change from beef to chicken or tuna because they do get tired of the ground beef.
