its not just Americans my friend its the same all over the so called modern world,,
people who have very shallow lives believe money is king and to have a fancy car that's bigger &better than the next persons is a measure of their success.
they should take a vacation in one of the poor countries and see what their capatilism is doing to the world,,
i have said it often and i will keep saying it the banks and the capitalist in this world are the biggest threat to man kind,, more than any terrorist group
until the small pea brained people with to much money realise how pityful they are ,we will not improve as a human race,,
i dont object to people working hard to beter them selves(thats fair&deserved) i am really talking about the greedy B......ds that have millions and sometimes billions lying in a bank when we have woman & children dying that could be saved for less than the price of their vintage champagne, it makes me sick, would you believe that the poorest 22% of the worlds population donate 89% of the monies giving to charity,,
they will die one day my friends and i wish i could be there to see them meet their maker,, its one party they will not enjoy,,
peace to all ...
ps you greedy people know who you are ,,have alook at yourself in the mirror..

Well not all americans... Basically there is a very visible part of our society that does think that way so I can understand why someone could think that. But basically it's the american dream gone crazy. The american dreams was that everyone can come here have a roof over thier head and a good job and be able to take care of thier own... Now some of the muchity muchs ... seem to think that unless you have a house with 10 bedrooms and you can buy your parents one too... with 40 cars... you don't have anything. How ever if you get down to the ordinary americans... We have a different veiw... Takin care of your family and working hard... and helping around people in your area is important. There are plenty of very "successful" people... who came out of middle class or lower families who haven't lost that emphasis on helpin out those around you. So there is still hope for us yet...

Money is not the only thing people are measured by but it is one of the large ones because there are ways to improve your lot in life in this country because there are choices that you make in life. In this country being poor stems from bad choices more than anything else. The problem is the most important of these choices occur when you are too young to understand their impact on your life. However even people that should be wealthy based on their income have money problems because of choices that they make. I have seen people that make very little money retire wealthy and people that make a lot of money retire poor. This is because of the lifestyle choices that they made. People that develop this ability to handle their own problems do deserve higher respect than somebody who has the ability but has never developed it.

Well, because money is really the only tangible thing that measures success. All the people in the world could think you're a great and successful person, but their esteem isn't really a solid measure.

I do not think money is the yardstick that everyone uses. I have money but my success comes from my family & the contributions they make & will continue to make in society. I am a Republican but like most of my Republican friends money does not define who we are.

I can honestly tell you I don't feel that way. We live paycheck to paycheck but we're happy and have a house full of love. Therefore, I consider my husband and I to be very successful.

Money is a scorecard. It is quick evidence of a person's success although it doesn't show anything about how it was acquired...

I don't. Success to me is happiness. I don't need to be overly wealthy to be happy. But I do need to be able to pay my bills. :-)
