My denomination, Southern Baptist, supported slavery. Southern Baptist's had lots of cotton and tobacco farms in the south.

I'm glad I wasn't around when that was going on. It's not something to be proud of.

There were several churches that supported slavery. Malcolm X was not the only icon that blamed Christianity for its faults in slavery. If you read anything about Frederick Douglas, he too criticized Christians for using the Bible as a basis for remaining slave owners after converting their slaves to Christianity.

Christians used verses in the Bible like "Obey thy master" as interpretations that slavery was not only right but expected in the Bible.

As many blacks including Americans of African descent are now Christians, respective sects are trying to address issues of past discrimination.

One more thing, as a Muslim, Malcolm X saw the atrocities that so called Christians were committing against blacks and questioned why any black person would associate with such a religion that did not see them as equals.

Not a bad question if you think about it from that perspective. Of course, black Christians do not view the misdeeds of some so called Christians as being representative of the entire religion.

Quite a few denominations split along regional lines over slavery. That's why you have Southern and Northern Baptists.
I know Malcolm X is an Icon, but he had a very screwed up theology.
