last week I was going back home after school, and I passed a parked car, and I heard horrible meows. so I stopped to have a peek, then I saw this baby kitten with no normal pupil, huge blue eyes, crying through the window at me...so I though that why the kitten was locked in an old van this hot at noon. then I heard footsteps and I hid behind the car next, and I saw this man, who was my neighbor(never talked to him) slid open the door and wacked the kitty hard on the head with what looked like a shopping bad, and the cat yelled out, then he drove away. so I ran home, and went to his neighborhood and knocked on someone's door to ask if they knew this guy, and the lady told me that the guy is a drunk, and beats up the cat every now and then, and once he banged the cat's head onto the wall so hard that the cat went blind, well that explains the cat's eyes... I want to get the kitty out, but I don't want to call the police the get the guy in trouble...what would you do? as a cat lover?

I love cats, too, and every animal in the world!... That bastard! (excuse my language) And, why pray tell, the neighbor didn't report the guy in the first place?! What in the world is going on with some people?!

I would call the cops and report this guy immediately! Inform the Animal Protection Services as soon as you can!--the kitten will be taken from him within 24 hours and he'll be arrested. Not only is he drinking and driving and putting other innocent people in danger ("DUI" charge). He's also abusing animals ("Animal Cruelty" charges), especially the innocent kitten... Just WHAT in the world is wrong with that man?! Poor kitten!

With the charges like that the following will happen: He'll get his liscence revoked for about 12 to 24 months. Plus, he'll get fined on average of about $2,500 to $15,000 for the Animal Cruelty charges for abuse in any shape, form or manner (depending on your State). It'll be just as fair to do that to him than to let him abuse another innocent creature. The kitten will be taken into the shelter where it'll be taken care of (or, if you'd like you can even adopt the poor creature yourself) and made sure that it's not going to suffer anymore (given proper care and shelter). He might even get in jail untill someone will bail him out plus a community service (or, if no bail will be posted... for about 3 years) with a fine of the revoked lisence and about $5,000-$10,000 in fines. PLUS to the "Cruelty to Animals" charge he might be fined with about $7,000 to $9,000 that will go towards sustaining the kitten's life and making sure that it'll be okay (depending on the extend of the injuries). ALL of that WILL go on his permanent record as well as the DUI charge. As the outcome: He'll never drink and drive ever again and he'll never have any animals in his place or even think of taking any other creature in.

I don't know other States' Laws that well... Just to let you know, here in CA we have a new law about DUI. They told us in the PASSING (can you believe it?) and once the word went around... There are a lot of changes in the behavior among drivers now-days... It took everyone about a month to catch up to the new rule and a lot of people learned it really fast (learning by someone else mistake to avoid making the same one). The law went into affect in 2005. It states EVEN IF it's just 1st time the driver is caught drinking and driving, he/she WILL BE charged with the following:
- DUI Charges (they HAVE TO appear in court for this one): It'll be about $300 to $500 ticket on the spot PLUS Court fees of about $100 per person (depending on the Judge: it can be anywhere from $100 to $300).
- Fined a total of anywhere between $3,000 to $10,000. For under-age DUI, it'll be $5,000 to $15,000.
AND/OR
- Revoked Driver's Lisence for a period of 12 to 24 months
- 6 to 12 months in jail
This goes into the driver's PERMANENT record and it won't be erased no matter how many years will pass. Their car will either be reposessed by the bank (if the driver is 21 and older) or the teenager won't drive untill he/she is about 21 to 25 years old. Insurance will go up and they won't be able to get another car for 2 to 5 years. This new law I believe was signed by our Governor and approved by the State as well the U.S. Government. Needless to say, it scared the living daylights out of everyone here and it seems like about 45% of the CA population are actually listening. Now, the #1 Rule on the highways and all of the roads in CA: DO NOT drink and drive! HAVE someone sober with you so you won't regret in the future! The Law won't go easy on Women either... charges are equal BOTH ways for Men AND Women!

PLEASE let us know how everything turned out in the end:
- What did the Vet say about the Kitten's condition? How serious is it?
- What did that jerk get away with in the end (IF he did)?
- Who has the Kitten now? Was it adopted?

If the cat is in the van and if the guy is gone. See if the doors are unlocked or if a window is down, Try to get the kitty out. If it doesnt work then Call the police. the guy deserves it. I went through the same thing but the kitten was out side and we kept her and still have her.

Call the Human Society now!

They don't need to let him know that you're the one who reported him. You also should be worried about getting him in trouble. He should be. There isn't a single living thing out there that should be treated that way.

The sooner this guy is reported, the sooner this poor kitten can get help and a good home.

I can't believe his neighbour knew about this and never reported it. That's so wrong.

Call the humane society. If he can abuse an innocent little kitty, it's hard to tell what he could do to a human being. He's a menace to society, and the story you just told makes me absolutely physically ill. That poor little animal.

Sadly there are a lot of cases of pet abuse out there and few in the position to help. (sadly far more cases of people abuse out there). You may try your yellow pages under pet shealters, they should know who to contact locally to report abuse. Another source would the be ASPCA - http://www.aspca.org/

do some reach on your local city webpage as well - or call the helpline for pet licensing in your area - even a local vet might be able to point you at the right direction. HTH

Call the local humane society or SPCA. The ACOs (Animal Control Officers) will contact him, and if he signs the kitten over to them, his punishment will be less than if he fought them.
As the neighbor said, the guy is a drunk.....get him in trouble, it's probably what he needs to snap back to reality.

Call the police and adopt the cat. He should NOT own any pets and deserves to get in trouble! Does he ever let it out? If so steal it, he'd prob. be to drunk to know who took it anyway.

the guy should get in trouble. maybe that will help him solve the drinking issue too. haven't you ever seen animal planet? they arrest people for starving horses and all sorts of animals every day. it's terrible how mean people can be. and if you dont stop it when you have the chance, imagine how bad you would feel if you found out that that kitten died?

LemomBuzz--seen you around the site, so what i'd do is REPORT him immediatly-abusing a young animal in my state/city is now a class C felony-MINIMUM punishment is a $500 fine...

Being cruel to something that is not able to defend itself against you is henious-and a travestry to boot-in this heat to leave it in a van, without food air or water is also torture-and one thing that gets me so burning with anger.

Don't wait-report him to the authorities-before that cat dies a miserable and lonely death.

hope this helps and good luck to you-!
