I found this on the internet, but it still leaves the question open...

The nefarious connotations of 666 weren't invented by some heavy metal band -- they are rooted in the Bible.
The final book of the New Testament is Revelation, and for centuries theologians have pondered its highly symbolic, prophetic language. Revelation tells of impending Armageddon, an end of all time, when a great war will be fought between good and evil, and God will triumph. In Revelation, "the beast," also called the Antichrist, personifies evil.

Revelation, Chapter 13 speaks of the beast and how to identify his followers. According to verses 16 and 17, they will have the mark or the name or number of the beast on their right hands or foreheads. Verse 18 introduces the number 666 itself: "Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six."

It's unclear why the specific number 666 is the number of the beast. According to Dial-the-Truth Ministries, the number 6 is the number of man because in the Bible, God created man on the sixth day. Elsewhere in the Bible (Matthew 16:23), Satan is described as being "man-centered" (as opposed to God-centered). Thus the devil's number would be a twist on man's number. This is just one theory, and the number 666 has generated plenty of debate.

First of all, 666 is not the number of the devil, but rather the number of a man as the Bible says in Revelation. Thus, the second question has no answer.

Why did God create man if He knew that man/angels would fall?

In giving His creatures (visible and invisible) a free will, God allowed them to choose. A world of beings unable to choose would not be anything special. Only by giving free will does God give the possibility of love that is truly meaningful between Him and His creation. The better stuff something is made of, the better it can be if it goes right and the worse it can be if it goes wrong. A man of genius can be amazing if he uses his genius for good purposes, however, he can be incredibly destructive if he uses his mind for evil. A supernatural being even more so.

As to why the number 666, I don't know, but in the Bible 7 is the number of completion, and 6 is the number of man. The fact that it is stated three times implies a compounding of power, or at least of greater emphasis, some would say the antichrist, the false prophet, and they are given power by the devil.

The bible says nothing about a number of an angel. It says the mark will be the "number of a man", Revelation chapter 13.
Why 666 instead of 354? Who knows? If it were, then you would ask, "Why 354 instead of 666 or something?

It seems simple to question God.
But the truth is, we only see a small part of the picture.
We will know all the answers one day.
God loved Lucifer. Lucifer sinned against Him (pride). I don't know why God created Him, and I don't know why Lucifer decided to rebel.
666 Was the number given to the beast. Satan. Remember Lucifer was Satan's form when he was the most beautiful creation ever. We don't know the significance of 666 or 777 YET. But we will. These are things that were shown to John and there were things (read Revelations) that were hidden from him as well. God would not show us certain things while John was given Revelation. Everything had to happen this way to rid the future Earth and Heaven of sin. Love God with all your heart. He wants a personal relationship with you. God bless, Heather

The Scripture says, "Here is wisdom. Let he who hath understanding count the number of the Beast for it is the number of a MAN, and his number is six hundred, threescore and six." The number six is representative of man and his imperfections. Three sixes represent the Satanic trinity which is Satan, the Antichrist, and the False prophet.

I don't know if Uriel and the others had "numbers" assigned to them.

God created us with FREE WILL! This is why Satan rebelled. He exalted himself above God and God wasn't going to have any of that! God gave him a choice, and he chose to rebel.

See the end of my first statement to know why the number 666 was used.

God created the Devil because everyone needs an enemy or they will not have anything to try harder for. If God didn't have the Devil, who would he compete with? The gave him 666 because its a unique number.

1.) Nobody knows.
2.) Do they even have a number? Satan is going to either take the form as a man or be born as a man(the antichrist), with that number, his name is going to equal 666.
3.) Freedom of will, The angels have just as much freedom to do what they choose to as us and most choose to obey christ. While others such as satan choose to rebel.
4) Its the number of the man satan is going to take form as either by possesing or being born of.

The myth of the devil draws heavily from numerology and astrology. The name and the number of his name refers to the supposed anti-Christ according to the Revelation of St. John the Divine -- but it, like its supposed master, is a myth.
