A sternutation or, more commonly known, sneeze is a semi-autonomous, convulsive expulsion of air from the nose and mouth. This air can reach speeds of 100-200 mph and an unimpeded sneeze sends two to five thousand bacteria-filled droplets into the air.
It is almost impossible for one to keep one's eyelids open during a sneeze, although some rare individuals report having little if any trouble doing so. The reflex of shutting the eyes serves no obvious purpose: the nerves serving the eyes and the nose are closely related, and stimuli to the one often trigger some response in the other.

It is completely impossible. I've tried to keep my eyes open when I sneeze, but my eyes naturally close. It is a reflex!

when you sneeze, your face muscle contract in order to get out the fluid. you open when you sneeze but you can force it to shut tight and the tension is built up in your nostrils and you will feel like your face exploded. Therefore, you can choose not to close your eyes when you sneeze, but your body has to react it in some other ways when you try to stop the its mechanism, homeostasis, from going. If you force to open your eyes wide, your tear glands will feel the pressure. So it's more likely that you tears will flow like river when you do that.

aachoo!! yup it is impossible, jus tried. ive also heard it is impossible to fart and sneeze at the same time. ive heard that if u sneeze with ur eyes open, they pop out and roll across the room...hehe thats kinda funny wen u think about it... :]
