I am thinking of taping them. Anyone out there who has had a pom with "lazy" ears? How old was it when it's ears stood up? Any advice for taping a pom's ears. I will not have them cropped, he will just have to have floppy ears. He is full blooded, we looked at both parents and the grand father all their ears were standing. Help!

Give it a little more time. Sometimes it takes a while for pomeranian's ears to stand up on their own. They also tend to droop when they are teething, but erect themselves once they are done. Or, your dog could have a birth defect, which is possible, but not probable.

I have a chihuahua puppy she's 6 months old now. When I got her she had the floppy ears and they were really cute, but I knew that chi ears are supposed to stand up. At the time she was teething and so it was normal for a young pup's ears to be floppy. I was beginning to think that she'd have floppy ears forever, but eventually, they stood up. My vet said it's a phase puppies go through when they're teething, but if your Poms ears aren't erect by the time he's 6-8 months old, then you'll just have to learn to love the fact that your dogs ears may never stand up.

It might help if you trim the hair on the tips and part way down the sides of the ears. I know with yorkies we have to do that or they will droop.. But poms ears will not usually stand up at this age.. Give it some time. I wouldn't tape them.

1. Its probably the beginning of his first Adult coat ( poms have a double coat ) 2. Usually around 1 1/2 to 2 yrs is when they get their full Long, thick, Course Coat 3. Just give him a Good Diet, and daily brushing 4. They can be. They are smart dogs. But, the problem is, they can also be VERY stubborn 5. Nope. He is going through his "pom uglies" and he is losing his flowing, puppy coat. If you got him from a good breeder, who only breeds quality dogs, then he should get a nice, "poofy" adult coat. 6. Poms, because of their thick coats, and how easily they get dirty, because of that coat, need a bath usually every three weeks or so ( there are exceptions for that though ) 7. Poms aren't the best travelers. And can get car sick really easily. But, as long as you are careful. I dont find anything wrong with taking him with you. 8. Sorry. Unfortunatly. Some dogs are just born car sick. And most dont outgrow it. You can ask your vet if there are "doggie nausia pills". That may help him. 9. Just email me if you have any questions. Good luck. Hope this helped.

i have the same problem....well sort of. My jack russel is supposed to have V-shaped ears that fold down. Ever since he was little they have been stood up straight like a rabbit's ears. He looks silly but "lazy ears" are actually a condition a dog gets. I dont think taping them will help. Surgery is the best bet, but i dont recomment it. He is just fine the way he was born

my Yorkie Pom mix puppies only had 1 out 4 whose ears stood up. But they should be up by 3 months old. Good luck though. Go POMS!

okay, it is possible that given time, his ears will start standing up on their own, but if you want to tape them, they should be fine. You kindof make them into a cone shape, use medical tape so that it will not pull out his hair, and tape them firmly but gently, wrapping the tape several times. the tips of his ears should not be taped, and the ears should be standing when the tape job is done. You have to make sure to clean the ears, and I think you have to re-tape them daily, unfortunately, I am not sure how long you must continue to tape them

Dogs ears don't stand up until they are about a year old. The cartilige has to harden and the muscles have to develope fully and his ears sticking up aren't the most important thing in his gowth and developement.

Just because his ears aren't standing right now, doesn't mean anything. They can end up standing up later.

Do not tape them, just let things happen naturally.
