My friend set me up on a blind date with a guy friend of hers. I have never actually met him in person, but she gave him my number so we have talked on the phone. We have plans to go out on friday but I feel like we have already covered "first date" topics on the phone. Likes, dislikes, family stuff. I'm just afraid there is going to be akward silences. Any ideas of what we can talk about?

Up to date news topics are always good. Just go to CNN.com and read up on the nation/world. SERIOUSLY! Works every time.

I wonder if you are going alone or with another couple. Sometimes people feel better knowing that someone else is going with them however, one person usually one of the parties in the blind date get ignored and that isn't any fun for them regardless of how sharp their potential date is. Work, education, favorite hobbies, etc can keep a conversation going for a while. It just takes a little time to get over the awkwardness and then it will be easier. Good luck...

Ask lots of questions. Learn everything you can about him, and hopefully you can add in your info about stuff that interests you both.
