i would bring it to the dealer and make sure it is still alright and isn't broke or anything. if it is then you could buy a new one and you wouldn't have to worry that it is broke and defeats the purpose of even having it. good luck

It depends on whether the child was in the car at the time. I don't know why... but I got in a car wreck while I had a car seat strapped into the car, but the baby was not with me. The car was destroyed so badly that it just got hauled to the junkers, and I had to go to the mechanics and get all my stuff out of it. They told me that if the baby had been in the carseat during the wreck, they would not be allowed to let me have it back and insurance would pay for a new one... but since the baby was not with me at the time, the car seat was still usable. I still have it!

Insurance might reimburse you for it. It's best to get a new carseat even if you've been in a minor accident in it, because something on the inside of the seat could be damaged and weakened.

No. Buy a new one. Car seats that have been in an accident may have small cracks that you can't see & won't protect your child. New child safety seats aren't that expensive. They cost a lot less than a funeral. You can replace the seat, but not your baby. I also recommend not buying a used seat, as you don't know the history of it, if it has ever been in an accident.

Q. Why do child safety seats need to be replaced after a crash?

Crash forces can weaken or damage child safety seats, safety belts, and other protective devices, making them less effective. This type of damage can even occur in minor crashes, even if it is not visible to the naked eye, and it can make the protection systems less effective. For this reason, manufacturers state that child safety seats and safety belts involved in crashes must be replaced. If a restraint system has protected a passenger in a crash, it has already done its job.

Many parents and caregivers are reluctant to replace safety devices after relatively minor crashes. At a minimum, we suggest contacting the manufacturer for advice. The manufacturer knows the product’s capabilities and limitations, and may even be able to assist parents and caregivers with encouraging insurers to pay for replacement

NO!! You can Not use a car seat after an accident, you will have to get a new one even if it looks fine. Please do not use it. I am on an fire department, and I can't tell you how many people ask that question. So don't worry it was not a stupid question, some people don't know, we would rather you ask than put your child in danger.

According to: http://www.aap.org/family/carseatguide.htm

Q: Can I use a car safety seat that was in a crash?
A: If the car safety seat was in a moderate or severe crash, it needs to be replaced. If the crash was minor, the seat does not automatically need to be replaced. A crash is considered minor if all of the following are true:

The vehicle could be driven away from the crash.
The vehicle door closest to the car safety seat was not damaged.
No one in the vehicle was injured.
The air bags did not go off.
You can't see any damage to the car safety seat.

here is a website that says a carseat that has been in an accident should be destroyed and discarded

even if it does not appear damaged you need to throw it away, and you should make it unusable before you throw it out so someone doesn't pick it up and use it

it will be dangerous if you continue to rely on a seat that has been in an accident
