It seems to me that it is a matter of politics and money. The Tobacco industry in this Country is very powerful, donating money to various politicians to keep their products on the market. Also Tobacco has been around for a very long time and has been legal for years before it was discovered that it was a major health hazard. Marajuana does not have the Big Business Support and Lobbiests to promote it, and it does not have the history of being a commercial product, grown, manufactured and supported by Big Business interests. Also it has it own detrimental effects, some that are not even known. Many legal medications have a lot of untoward effects. All you have to do is listen to the Commercials on TV to know that we are playing with fire when we place medications into our bodies. Many of these chemicals are new to us and to our bodies and the full extent of their effects are not even known. Be careful with anything new. Many medications have been removed from the market place once they were found to be more harmful than good. Some have had a resurgence once they were found to be helpful in treating other conditions...such as Thalidomide for Multiple Myeloma.

Weed was made illegal as a knee-jerk response to Mexican immigrants (I'm not kidding). Mexican immigrants were big weed smokers and hysteria started that the weed made them crazy and violent. It was wacky hysteria, but is was enough to get marijuana on the banned substance list.

Cigarettes, on the other, do not produce any sort of "drug-induced" haze. There is no real danger to others when someone smokes (second-hand smoke is a fallacy). I'm not saying weed does produce this effect, only that cigarettes do not. Just because something isn't good for you is no reason to ban it. What are the benefits of chocolate, fat, and greasy foods? Let's ban them, too. Fifty people die every year from falling in the bathtub. Let's ban bathtubs.

"Bad for you" should never be the benchmark for government control. One, it's my life and I should have the liberty and freedom to run my own life. Two, look what happened when we banned alcohol because it was "bad for you". That's when marijuana took hold in this country.

That's just the way it is. I too believe that cigarettes should be illegal, but that's probably never going 2 happen. But if everything that was bad for you was illegal, then junk food would be illegal, pop would be illegal, all sorts of things would be illegal!

the flexibility, use, earnings, adapability and application of criminal weed creates "too a lot good" to declare with loss of thought. nonetheless, maximum people who run the governments haven't any forethought the two. No, there grew to become into actual no longer something discovered as a effect of the Prohibition, even with the upward push of Al Capone, smuggling, talk-easys, and the infamous roar of the Chicago Typewriter for the time of Nineteen 1920s/30s u.s..

because all the rich politicians get money from the tobacco industries and if they wouldn't let them sell it then they wouldn't get more money that they think they need for doing nothing but telling lies(Bush)
