Not sure how long you are going to be here for...
Advice, try to learn some basic phrases before you come, you will be appreciated more.
Doesnt help to be a fussy food eater.
Places to go, there are so many great places to go in Korea, where in South Korea will you be?
Seoul has many palaces, and museums, and shopping.
Dong Dae Mun is good for clothes and accessory shopping, Nam Dae Mun is good for souvenirs and anything else really, its huge, Myeong dong is my favourite shopping place, for clothes and makeup.
Apkujeong has all your luxury brand items... at a cost.
There is a Seoul city bus tour for 10,000won and this will take you to most of the main focal points in Seoul city. Its a really worthwhile trip.

Eating, you have to try Korean bbq. Not sure if you're a big spicy food fan, but if you are, you will be fine.
Seafood is also a big thing here, fresh or cooked.
Bulgogi, is a marinated beef dish, quite basic yet tasty.
Bi Bim Bab seems to be quite popular amongst foreigners trying Korean food for the first time also. Its a rice dish with vegetables, meat and red chilli sauce, with a fried egg on top, and you mix it all up in your bowl and eat it.

I have lots of things to tell you if you need more info. Message me... not enough time to tell you at the moment... sorry.

Stay away from Itaewon. It is a dump. I think it is dangerous after dark.

Also, while some Koreans do eat dog, it is not widely available. You have to know someone who knows where to go.

Bargain for everything. When they see a Westerner, the price gets jacked up. You should be able to bargain 25-30 percent off.

Take a calculator, a small notepad, and a pencil when you shop. You make not be able to speak the language, but you can write your price down.

Insadong is the touristy area of Seoul, but is a must-see. Itaewan is the sketchy area, a kind of Little America. Take the USO tour of the DMZ, it's the best one.

Otherwise there is no crime, and everything is interesting. Just take the subway and get off at random, and you'll see something interesting no matter what.
