Lately my 10 year old cat has been shedding more that usual. Could this be a sign of illness? or old age?

It could be old age but my cat Sally has always shedded too much. She sheds ALOT in the winter and the same amount in the summer. i have no idea what makes her do it.

It can be both. Have you changed her diet? It may be the heat as well. you may want to give your vet a call if the cat is really shedding a ton.

it's more likely that it's poor nutrition but 10 is alot in cat years.

this could be a sign of illness and old age but it also could just be the strange weather patterns weve been having. keep an eye on him/her and see if any other habbits are changing

Old age or poor nutrition.

could be, older animals can lack in absorbtion of essential vit and minerals, get her a check up, have some blood work done. she may need some things to boost her immune system, when my kitten was real sick, he started losing hair and looked pretty shabby. i fed him a/d which has a lot of calories for sick animals and gave him pet tinic.
