Neither:(

I worked with pets for families. The best family dog would be a cocker spaniel, bishon frizze...bishon are non alergic for children with allergies and do not shed, beagles like to hunt so they will run off, rotty's are strong dogs more of a working dog. You should find a puppy that is going to be a medium size so the children can control it and also not hurt it. Boarder collies are also nice, poodles don't shed, Lhasa Apso are fun dogs but need grooming, labs and golden retrievers made nice family pets also.

Think of your home and lifestyle first. Something that is mellow for families is a better choice.

Something that doesn't require high matainence.

Hope this helps.

Well that depends on if you want a big dog or a small dog. Those are two totally different dogs. But if you want a good family dog I'd go with the beagle. Rotts can get a little rough sometimes no matter how you train them to be. So I wouldn't exactly call that a family dog.

I have had both. Beagles have a funky smell to them that never goes away. They are very stubborn. They are however small and easy to care for. Rottweilers can be aggressive. They are very protective of small children. They are much better with older kids. The best family dog would be a Labrador Retriever or a Golden Retriever. The Golden's however are much harder to keep up as far as their coat. Good luck.

Beagles would be a better family dog than the Rottie. They would take less training and will take direction from a child better than the rottie.
I love rotties but they do not always take direction from children well and can be hard headed and take much more taining time and effort.
Beagles are very very active and need to be kept busy with lots of activity. Lots of play time and they do like to hunt so with kids if the kids can keep one busy it could be good match.

Beagles bark too much. A Rottweiler is a great family pet, but they need to be trained and socialized right. They also take as much commitment as a human. If I were you, I would try to spend a couple of hours around each breed before you decide.

First off purebred dogs are not a problem, once you train them properly. If you want cute go for the beagle. If you want your home protected go for the Rottweiler, and a Rottweiler is a great family pet once it is handled properly and extremely intelligent. My Rottweiler is 5 month old.

if those are your two choice for a nice family dog, go with the beagle. that isn't to say that a rottweiler can't be a family dog...they just look really scary and will scare any of your children's friends. beagles are cute and not very threatening to look at.

i suggest a collie or a golden retriever. those are dogs i had as a child and they are WONDERFUL

Beagle!! Beagles are great pets!! They do need lots of exercise though!! I have heard that animal testing centers use beagles because they are so nice and rarely bite! Sad, huh?? Although mixed breeds make excellent pets too...check your local animal shelter. If you are set on a beagle or rottweiler, go with the beagle!!

It depends on what you want. Beagles are very difficult to train- as in housebreak and they bark a lot and they like to hunt, meaing they will bring you "presents". Rotties are great dogs and easily trainable. As long as they are socialized they are great but they are big dogs. Have you checked shelters in your area for a dog that needs a home? Shelter dogs can make great pets!
