Priests are usually Catholic. A set "paycheck" is given to them and comes from the offering plate. How else would the church be funded? "Donations" or tithes are taken up, voluntarily, in order to pay the churches bills, even for a church, the electricity and heat, etc. costs money.

Some of that does go to the Priests while a good amount goes to the chuch maintenance. Priests also get paid by donations.
For the most part, Priests and Pastors are not really well off though in some cases that is wrong.

Priests as such don't get a paycheck. They get all of their living expenses covered, but have taken a vow of poverty, meaning that they don't own anything themselves. Everything belongs to the church. So the money from the collection plate is sent to the diocese, who then send the priest money for living expenses.
