Boot Camp is extremely tough. That's the point of it. Drill Instructors ARE NOT allowed to touch recruits at any time unless it is necessary (IE: you're choking and need the heimlich) Drill Instructors are also trained to CONTROL THEMSELVES and not hit, kick, or beat recruits. Keep in mind, most DIs are CAREER Marines... they have been Marines for many many years and will continue to be for years to come. Their career is EXTREMEMLY IMPORTANT to them and most wouldn't even consider putting that in jeopardy by assaulting a recruit. However, none of this will save you from a verbal lashing. You'll get that no matter what you do or say, or what you don't do or say in boot camp. It's all part of the process!

I believe that is the toughest Boot Camp.My husband went through that(prior Marine now Army) and he said it was pretty rough. You just have to listen to your Drill Instructor and do what your told.Yes you will endure alot of physical training, obviously, and they will totally mess with you mentally. You know that saying, break you down to build you up,and it's gonna be hard.I guess that's why once you do Marine Boot Camp you never have to go through it again even if you re-enlist in another branch, unless of course your going Navy Seals.I think that they have it harder than the Marine Boot Camp but that's just my opinion. If there is a Navy Seal reading this could you tell me a little bit about your training? But I don't believe that they are allowed to physically smack you around and I know that things like that happen and they probably do get away with it.Some people abuse their and it's sad.Good luck to ya.

umm...just a quick correction to what a previous answerer said...from your avatar it looks like you are a female.....if so...i don't think i would advise you to call YOUR drill instructor SIR...that might not be a very comfortable situation. MAAM would be more appropriate. And yes it will be tough. They will terrify you. they will challenge you. They will do everything they can to place you under the same level of stress you might experience in combat while at the same time expecting you to learn...and you will. And you will work your butt off. and you will be so proud you'll pop the buttons off your blouse. good luck.
P.S. and D.I.'s don't hit recruits....even if you thought they did they didn't ok. Honestly they are not there to harm you at all. There used to be a sign hanging over a large archway at the MC D.I. School that said... Let no mans ghost ever say "If only your training had done it's job". These are dedicated people who are on your side even though it wont feel like it sometimes.

Drill instructors, regardless of branch, cannot touch a recruit unless it is to correct his position (such as during rifle training or Drill and Ceremonies). Even the, the DI has to tell you that he is going to touch you. If a DI strikes you, make sure you report it. Even if that DI's commander doesn't care, someone above him will.
The MCRD at Parris Island is the hardest entry training around, but you should never get hit.

it will be the most fun you ever had, your drill instructors are funny people, you have to really pay attention to what they say! other wise It is hell! you will be tests mentally and physically, do not complain while you are ther, and if you get quarter decked, then take it, like the marine you are training to be! It will be like nothing you experience, and nothing we tell you can prepair you! what ever you think it is like it is the opposite! You will be a better person for it! just remember the chow hall is not Denny's, and you are a recruit from the moment you step to those yellow foot prints until you drill on the parade deck for you pass in review! Also sound off, and be still!

Yeah I knew plenty of dinks that got hurt in boot camp, it was usually becaus ethey werent paying attention or were screwing around doing something they werent supposed to be doing.
You can get cellulitis from any wound you get, it could be as small as a cut you might bet from falling down on a the bleachers, etc... If the wounds gets a bacterial infection, it has a very good chance of turning into cellulitis, which is very common, and is not really life threatening. Boot camp is waaaay fun and not really that bad. Yeah its hard, alot of work, but its only a bad time if you're a total ******. Trust me, boot camp is fun.

They can't beat you there. It is not as bad as you will think. Just remember they are only tough on you because they want you to be the best you can be. The Marine Corps training is the toughest of all the military branches. But at the end of the day, you'll appreciate all the toughness they put on you.

Keep your head down, your mouth shut, when a DI speaks to you, 'Sir' (or Ma'am, thanks Runnin on MT) them to death. Do what they expect of you, when and how they expect it.
As for the hitting, technically they are not supposed to. However, I personally wouldn't hold it against them if they hit someone who's gonna be disrespectul to them. No offense, but that's just me.
It's going to be emotionally and physically rough. Once you get through, you're going to feel the pride from your DI's coming off in waves. They aren't there to make you fail. They are gonna break you, and once they have, they are gonna pull you back up and rebuild you. Just keep pushing through, remind yourself that it isn't forever.

All you have to do to survive Paris Island is to do what they tell you and don't complain. It's when the recruits start whining that they can't do it or try to give up that the treatment gets nasty. Look at it as a challenge, and don't give up.
