There are so many breakthroughs in the medical field that they don't have enough time to keep announcing it every day. They need to make time and space for the other newer or more modern breakthroughs.

Often new treatments need to be approved by the FDA and/or accepted by the medical community as a whole. If these don't happen, the "breakthrough" is labelled as "experimental" and is only rarely used, if at all.

because they usually are not much of a breakthrough or that much different from existing technology. if they are something truely innovative they go through a lengthy approval process (fda if it is a drug) before they can be legally used on people. plus news changes everyday and there is no money to be made on dwelling on the same story, especially if it is something people are not interested in. i mean really, who is interested in medical tech? now who paris hilton is banging this week? now that is interesting news! ;p
