Amtrack runs up the coast, don't know about Salem specifically, but you can catch from Portland thru Seattle to Vancouver BC.

In Vancouver, you would take VIA rail across the country to Ontario. Of course, Canada is a huge country so the train trip will take you several days. For that matter, Ontario is a huge province so depending on where in it you want to go, train mightn't be practical...

I know that my uncle who lives north of Vancouver travelled down to Seattle and then took the Amtrak train to Union Station which is Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Not sure about Salem but if you went to Seattle then you could take the route he took.

You can catch the Amtrak in Oregon. it will swing up to Washington and then travel through all of the most northerly States all the way to the vicinity of Niagara Falls U.S. where it crosses the border and ends in Toronto, Ontario. You can also go to Michigan and then cross into Ontario via car or bus.
