For a black cat I have used the names:
Todd
Copper
(When I was little and was into The Fox and the Hound)
Ace
(As in black as the ace of spades)
Panther
PussPuss
Spook
Michael
Cindor
(An acronym for a cat my husband fished out of a really tall tree- Cat In NeeD Of Rescue. It helped that she was black so except for the spelling Cindor/Cinder it works)
CJ
(Cindor Jr. - daughter of Cindor)
Don't be afraid of keeping the cat for a bit before you name it. I have discovered many animals tend to name themselves after you get to know them.

Best name I ever heard for a black cat was Kunte Kitty. If you don't know what that means, check out the program "Roots" by Alex Haley.

I had a black cat named Salem.
I also had one named Onyx. (Like a black onyx stone.)
Maybe Panther or Blackie.
Or Midnight or Tahitia (Like a Tahition Pearl they are black)
Or Night, Darkness or Cole (Like coal)
Or Inkie, Smudge or Tar.

Shadow, Blacky, Kuroi, Aleister, Howard (Phillips Lovecraft), or just Lovecraft, Female (pronounced famallie) My favorite cat name was Trichobezoar (medical name for hairballs) or Trich for short.

I'm partial to Salem, Onyx and Pirate.
Also, what about Gadget, Bandito or Cole (coal) if its a male. Or even Colio if you're into rap music.
And for a female cat, Raven is my fave.
