I would not put some thing on it except you get a vet's okay- there are too many matters on the way to make it worse alternatively than higher. For instance- the peroxide stings- its feasible should you use it that your dog will take a small sore and make it into a massive, high-priced sore. Creams and ointments aren't normally the satisfactory factor to use on an open wound with dogs- they have a tendency to simply lick it off, or the moist ointment encourages breeding of micro organism and stuff that may purpose the wound to be contaminated. Frankly- if you are involved adequate to be watching to put whatever on it- you rather should be calling your vet. Be VERY VERY careful about ANY kind of over the counter product that you just use- there are lots of merchandise that will kill your dog if you do not know what you're doing.

You are right to want to keep the puppy from licking her wound. If you put a little hydrogen peroxide on it to disinfect (remember to blow on it so it won't burn!). Then, put a little neosporin or polysporin on it to quicken the healing process. Bandaids will get caught in the pup's hair, and won't be fun!. If you have some gauze or a wrappable bandage, that is better. Wrap if around the dog's leg and secure either by tying it off or with a safety pin. Clean the sore every day to prevent infection, and the dog should leave it alone. Good luck!

Go to WalMart, buy some Tea Tree Oil (it runs about $6)
Gently clean the area.
If there is some hair there that is or can reach the sore, trim that away (it can cause festering).
Put some Tea Tree Oil on a cotton ball and bathe the area with it.
You won't have to use band aide or vet wrap, the dog will leave it alone, it is a strong odor (not bad, just strong).

I agree with others...
Clean it with a little peroxide as said, and then put some antibiotic cream or Neosporin on it. Cover it with a gauze wrap and tie it off, just not too tight. If she does pull it off after a while, it's okay. Just try to keep it on her for a good 10-15 minutes. I would reapply it twice a day, myself. Though once is probably good enough.
Good luck to you! Make sure to take her in if it starts to grow, or if it looks to be getting worse, or if she starts showing any other symptoms, such as odd behavior, hair loss, nasty discharge from the wound, fever, or things of that nature.

Peroxide is okay, I wouldn't use alcohol, you may never be able to catch her to reapply. After peroxide, try putting neosporine on it tear a rag and wrap around her leg so she won't lick it off.
If it doesn't look better over night or is is painful around the area, you might want to see the vet, because it's likely that it is a spider bite.

If she has a sore, the best thing you can do is take it to a vet. They know what the dog needs in order to heal. It could turn into a major thing if you do something that you're not supposed to do!

DO NOT but peroxide or alcohol straight on it! that will severly damage all the tissue aroiund it, not mention hurt like hell. if you think it is close to getting infected put diulted peroxide on it, very carefully. This is probably just a hot spot, so try to keep your dog from irritating it more.

My lab gets hot spots all the time and if we let her lick it it will turn into a sore. We give her an oatmeal (Aveeno bath) to help sooth the itching. I also give her some benedryl to prevent them. (per our vet) If you can get some bandage on there- gauze and tape- to help her to stop licking, it will help heal. Neosporin won't hurt it but our vet says it probably doesn't help it much. I put the neosporin on there for my own piece of mind.

Clean it and put some Neosporine on it - cover it, if she'll let you, but try to keep the ointment on for at least 10 minutes (most dogs will try to lick it off)
