I was told a few months back that the govt. would start giving free credit reports and it would come to Tx in about may or so, does anyone know where to get a free credit report? a real free one, not where you have to give your life history and all your bank and credit card info for a free trial and then when they dont let you cancel you get billed hundreds of bucks, i just want a simple honest to gosh free credit report

Freecreditreport.com I believe is the site where I went to get a free report. It is really free, no strings attached. You can get one once per year. I paid $5 for my credit score though (optional).
