I can't get over how much fat and calories are in peanut butter or in a hand full of nuts but I hear they are good for you and a good party of a well balanced diet.

I want to eat them but I need for someone to explain that they will not make me fat.

you should only eat up to 2 tbsp's of peanut butter everyday--more and it'll be too much

however, nuts like almonds, are high in protein, and high in unsaturated fats (the good kind), and keep you feeling full for longer periods of time--this would curb your appetite and would allow you not to overeat because you don't get that hungry when it comes to meal time

so bringing a handful of almonds as a midafternoon or midmorning snack between meals is a great way to keep energized and full during the day

the unsaturated fats in the nuts boost HDL production--and decrease LDL production
High density lipoproteins are good for you, and low density lipoproteins are bad since they can cause clogged arteries and heart problems

nuts, when eaten excessively, can make you fat--because eating anything excessively can make you fat
but if you have a handful of nuts as a snack, and 1 tbsp of peanut butter--it'll keep your blood glucose intact for longer periods of time, be good for your heart and circulatory system, and keep you feelin full...all great benefits

Nuts are high in iron, protein and other vitamins and minerals. Thats why they are good for you. You can have them in moderation like everything else. WIth peanut butter you can get natural peanut butter and pour off the oil on top that will reduce the fat content and then you can have as much as you want.

They do have a lot of fat in them, but it is a good fat. I had the gastric bypass surgery in 2000, and my doctor encouraged me to eat peanuts because they make you feel full fast, and you can lose weight that way. You can always do a google on peanuts and surely something will come up. Good luck!

You ask - I answer:

One of the most unexpected nutritional discoveries of the 1990s was that the frequent eating of nuts appears to dramatically improve health.
In particular, nut eating greatly lowers the risk of heart disease. In 1992 researchers working on the Adventist Health Study at Loma Linda University in California reported that those eating nuts daily had up to 60% fewer heart attacks than those who ate nuts less than once per month. The beneficial effect of nut consumption was found for men, women, vegetarians, meat-eaters, fatter people, thinner people, the old, the young, those who did much exercise and those who did little exercise.
Four other large studies have since confirmed the benefits to the heart of nut eating. In addition to the cardiac benefits of consuming nuts, the risks of having a stroke, of developing type 2 diabetes, of developing dementia, of advanced macular degeneration and of gallstones have all been found to be lowered by eating nuts. Calculations suggest that daily nut eaters gain an extra five to six years of life free of coronary disease and that regular nut eating appears to increase longevity by about 2 years.

How about that? Go nutty and live healthy!
Peace!

They give you protein which you need in order to be healthy. They won't make you fat unless you eat like 15 pounds of it.

They are an excellent source of protein. Eat them as part of a balanced diet and you will not get fat. FYI: Reese Cups don't count...neither do Snickers bars. : )

They are fattening. Just because somethings good for you doesn't necessarily mean it's necessarily low-cal.

Eat nuts, drink, and be happy. Life is too short.

Yes they are fattening. The reason they are good for you is protein. You can get protein from other sources too though.
