God will give you what you need. He knows all.
But the Bible says "when much is given, much is required." Example: When you go to work, 5 days a week, 40 hours a day. You exspect to get payed, right?

Yes, your question is very very genuine. And answers from even well meaning sincere people only adds to confusion instead of clarifying the doubt.
In a simple way of looking at it, it is like this. You start rolling a stone from the top of the hill and it comes down , also gaining great momentum, force while rolling down hill. Now half way, you wish to push it back uphill (for some reason, say , you realised that this was not the stone you wished to push ... etc). Imagine what strength you require to not only stop it but to push it back so that it rolls upwards as per your new desire !
Similarly, it is easier to do thing with NATURE rolling down hill... but if you realise that it was a wrong choice, then reversing your action is really tough though not really impossible !
Though this example is symbolic, it not far wrong in proportions. What you have already done in the past has to bear its fruits. You can plan fresh plans according to your choice, but the reactions of the past will take its course, whether it overlaps with the results of your present/future actions (out of your choice) or precedes/succeeds depends on the very nature of actions and its results.
What we mean by "when God wants" is simply the "natural course of events" which also 'plays along' your actions.

"Because it says in the Bible that God helps those who help themselves. "

I'm pretty sure the Bible doesn't actually say that--and if it did, "help yourself" could be taken to mean stealing! I think the closest thing to it would be Paul's admonition that he who won't work, should not eat. I guess the Pope must be pretty hungry.

But, yeah, Christianity is all about God deciding the future of every person in the world, knowing everything that's going to happen, and controlling every event. This means that every earthquake, avalanche, hurricane, etc. is God's doing. Every time you get sick, it's God's fault. If you get a new car, you're supposed to thank God for it, and if a drunk driver side-swipes that nice, new car and totals it three days after you pay it off--well, that's God's doing, too.

Actually it's Ben Franklin who said " God helps those who help themselves" but I think he was right. I've asked the same question to myself that you ask. I get frustrated because my efforts never seem to amount to anything but then when I least expect it, things happen as if they were an award for my failed efforts. This is a very strange place we live.

God helps those who help themselves. You seem to be talking about "fate" when you say it is written that you will get something. God gives us what we ask for. There is nothing "written" saying you get this and I get that.

But you don't know what God wants. Even if you decide to sit back and do nothing, it's coz God allowed you to. So you might aswell think straight instead of backwards.

that's not how it works you are mocking. if it is something within reach not material goals and things. for instance, if you going through really tough times, (poor, homeless) God will help you endure it, somehow not allow you to go totally out of your mind.

also if u get everything you ask for especially material things, that's not God giving you those things, that's coming from another source.

Because if you do not work for it you will not receive it. The bible says a man who does not work should not eat. When you do not do as God asks you are delaying your blessings.

Because there is no god (or devil).People put so much energy into believeing something that is not real. The only reason why something happens is because thay did it themselves but, they don't know they did it themselves and wind up thanking god.

Has your destiny already been fixed by forces completely beyond your control? Consider what the Bible says on this matter.
