39 Popes Were Married!

2006-06-27 04:50:21 · answer #1 · answered by SEOplanNOW.com 7 · 1 0

Early popes often married, but it has been prohibited for several centuries. One of the most notorious was Alexander, who was the father of the Borgias, including Lucinda, who was supposed to be a poisoner. Her two brothers were notorious for their cruelty, and one of them may have murdered the other.

I know priests used to have wives and families until about 500 years ago or so, so it's possible that Popes did, too.
Good question. I'm going to look it up.
