Did you give them any notice? Its your right to charge more as long its reasonable. But the parents should get some notice and its definitely their right to go somewhere else as well. And then of course you could always call them and ask why they didn't bring them back.

They either can't afford to place the twins with you at that price altho that is extremely cheap (I pay £5 an hour here in the U.K and that is about average), I would just advertise the fact you have 2 spaces available because at the prices you are charging there will be lots of interest.
Do not go back to the original price per hour if you do they know they can make you do all sorts cos all they have to do is threaten to take the twins away.
If you truly believe you are offering good value for money and the children in your care are well looked after then stick to your guns.

You are charging little enough as it is even with the price per hour going up

Don't give up and Don't give in. Your time is valuable, too. You are providing an extremely valuable service.

I'm not sure where you're located however, in the US, you're rates are way below average.

In Michigan, my cousin is a Nanny and she makes $15/hr for 3 children. In addition she gets double and triple time for special occasions and over time.

In addition, 10 years ago, the daycare where my son attended charged 2.35 and hour and closed at 6pm. If you were late, it was $1.00 per MINUTE payable immediately to the person who had to stay late and wait for you to retrieve your child.

You should contact your county officials and find out what the going rate is in your area.

You are getting ripped off honey so don't worry, they'll be back. They won't be able to find someone else to do it as cheaply as you. Stand firm!

Call the twins' parents. Find out why they left. Did your price increase come too suddenly? Did they find a cheaper alternative? Can you work a deal to transition them to the higher price (remember, change isn't good for the kids, and the parents may have unexpected costs w/ a new provider, such as traffic/lost time, gas prices, etc.)

If that doesn't work, you need some marketing. How do you get the word out about your services?

Tell your current customers to spread the word among their friends that you have openings.

Can you network w/ the HR depts of large employers nearby?

Free ads (internet, radio, print). These go in and out of vogue, but hunt around your community.

I hope you gave an explanation why the need to raise the price.
Give them a call, it will not hurt to give your concern about the twins. Don't jump into a conclusion that they are leaving if they are try to fix any miscommunication or differences. If they can't afford it, maybe giving them a discount, like 25 cents instead of 50 or give them a month off from increase.

If all your efforts fail, time to place an add on your local stores.

I would gladly pay $1.50 / Hour. I pay 2.50 per hour for each kid. Put an ad in the paper and look for new people. What else can you do. So what there are other people out there who need a daycare provider

You shouldn't have put in the letter that you needed more money. You shouldn't ever put that! Now you will have to lose a customer. Or you could call the parents and find out if they went on vacation or were out of town. But regardless you will get more customers.

$1.50 an hour-turns out to be $12.00 for an 8hour day. which is $60.00 a week. If someone can not pay that for their child, I really do not know what to say to them. I wish I knew you when I had my daughter.

call them and ask if they are planning to withdraw. I wish my daycare only cost 1.50 an hour. Gosh it's 2.50-3.50 where i live per hour for inhome care.
