Yes, the still exist. The definition of religion is the worship of a deity. Pagans used to worship Isis and Venus and other Sacred Female Dieties. Fertility ceremonies was there way of supplication and worship. There are few of these religions left and most of them are secret societies that worship any number of beings. Maybe someone could clairfy if Tantric Buddhism is a sex-based religion. I don't know enough about Tantra.

I don't think there were any religions based on sex. You mean the fertility cults? The sacred whores? Those weren't religions based on sex, but they were religions who recognized sex as a sacred act of creation that glorifies and exemplifies the Gods. Well, those fell apart when people from other areas came in and decided it all meant party time. And then more folks came in, Christians in many cases, and decided it was all horrible and folks had to go underground because their own people couldn't handle it in a respectful manner.
Much like using various psychotropic herbs for ritual purposes can't be done anymore except in strict secrecy because there's always someone there who just wants to party. It's pretty sad, really. A few idiots ruin it for everyone else.
Even some early Christian sects (Look up Valentinus) saw sex as a sacriment. Many modern Pagan sects still do. Sacriment means holy, it doesn't mean get wasted and gang bang.

They were wiped out long before the religious right came along, but that doesn't mean they can't be recreated. On the other hand most people interested in relions based on sex are really just interested in sex and will use spirituality as an "in."

Sex is still used as a major control element in most religions .. just as a negative guilt builder and not a positive strength builder.
All religions obsess over sex in one way or the other .... just think about it.

No they still exist. They're called cults, and usually end with a weapons standoff or planes smashing into the Twin Towers...

Lustful sex religions?
Lustful loves are too sinful and diabolical to make a religion.

Yes, most of them are cults, and some kill their members and/or kidnap/rape/kill others.
