They don't want to because that would interfere with them being able to violate privacy laws based on the fact we r in 'a war on terror'. If they caught him, the opposing side would have an argument for ending this war on terror.
An example is recently in the news, the Bush administration has been illegally examining and illegally has access to ALL financial bank transactions. They have the entire database; although, they claim they are only looking at international transactions. BUT, the do have access to domestic transactions.
This is a violation of privacy laws here. It's not that they couldn't get this information, it is that they were required to go before a judge and get approval before invading someone's financial records.
Bush has defended it stating 'we r at war'. That's just one example. His administration has continually violated laws like this using the war on terror excuse.
Also, the Taliban offerred to surrender B. Laden the month before we invaded Afghanistan. Their stipulations were that he be given to a nuetral country in order to receive a fair trial and also to be recognized internationally. Bush said NO.
So, if Bush really wanted him, he had the chance right after 911. That is proof enough.

Bin Laden is hiding in an area of Pakistan controlled by warlords. We cannot go into that area without permission from the Pakistani government. The Pakistani governmet doesn't hardly go into that area because the warlords kick thier ***. If we had full cooperation from the Pakistani governmet and were allowed to go into that area without restrictions Bin Laden and his followers that find safety there would be found. The only good thing about the situation is that he is somewhat contained. Finally, as a soldier I say that if you think it's so damn easy to hunt other people in a no man's land where even the natural elements are harsh enough to kill you, the terrain sucks, land mines left from decades ago permeate the area, people back home complain about the job you are doing despite the sacrifices you are making, and the enemy has no regard for human life including his own then fell free to volunteer. And if the military isn't for you then go over on your own and hunt him, there's a nice reward out for him and maybe you can be the lucky one to collect.

First of, the search is ongoing. We have found a number of his middle mangement types, and loads of intel. Next, we are still talking about one man in a very big world. Current info has him in a region of Pakistian. The problem is We can't operate there, the goverment of Pakistian has limited control there & the locals like Bin Laden. Also consider we have no seen any video of the guy in a year. He is laying low. He trusts few people & uses untrackable communications ( no phone, email, fax, etc.) Consider how long it took to catch the Unibomber? And he was in the USA. It took over 20 years. The Olymipic park bomber Eric Rudulph stayed on the run for 10 years till some local cop busted him. So it's not as easy as you might think to find someone who doesn't want to be found.

Wow! I cannot believe how ill informed and frankly, stupid some of these responses are! Secretly I hope that the Marines have Bin Laden in some basement HERE in the good ole U.S.A. and they are torturing his a** for every single life that he has impacted throughout his horrible reign of terror. I hope that they beat him to the brink of death, then nurse him back and do it again, and again and again and again and again. Only because I saw FIRST HAND what he did on 9/11 and anyone who rejoices in that kind of death and destruction simply is not human.

They hired Afghans to hunt for him! They took our money to hunt for him and Osama's for not catching him. But that's OK because Bush said "I'm really not that worried about it." So no worries! we're all safe. Daddy Bush will take care of us, and he's got God on his side!
