You need to know this person very well, and what his strong interest may be. AND how strong your finances are. And give him a gift certificate in that direction.
For example, on various age milestones....I have used a gift certificate for a flighing lesson...A hot air balloon ride......and anything to do with bicycling. All of which has been for my mate.
Again, knowing his interests is the key.

It depends if you are an adventourous couple maybe take him to a local strip club and get him a lap dance. If you just a stay at home kinda couple maybe the box set of all of george carlins albums on CD. Or maybe just a nice tie and a bottle of after shave.
