I have heard that, but I doubt it if its only a few times. Just don't put it in the dishwasher, the heat releases chemicals.

I don't know if there is a cancer risk, but i learned a long time a ago from someone not to reuse plastic bottles. They said the plastic starts to come off and mixes with the water and you drink it. Obviously not good.

There is no cancer risk unless the water holds the cancer risk. It's ok to reuse the water bottle as long as you are only one using it.

I've heard nothing about cancer risk, but I have heard that its unsanitary to keep reusing a bottle because you can't really get in there to clean it

Absolutely not. Unless you're drinking known carcinogens FROM the bottle, there's no risk of cancer by using the bottle to drink from repeatedly.
