a friend was telling me about his barber and how his barber used a spray bottle to discipline his son.
apparently, if his son did something he wasn't supposed to, like bite him, then he would spray water in his face....
he said it worked....

i've heard of doing this to train dogs....but not people!!!

has anyone else heard of this practice??
i don't think i like the sound of it, but the guy said he felt better about it than spanking his kid....

thanks for your input!

It sounds really amusing and effective, as long as the kid doesn't think it's fun. It sounds better than spanking, which I only use for extreme problems. Biting isn't okay for a kid to do. So even spanking sounds okay as a punishment for that. But if you can stop biting with a spray of water, all the better.

Like you I have heard about doing this to animals but not children. I don't think I could do that to my kids. I have heard of people afraid to take showers because of the water on the face or my mom used to smack me in the face all the time and now I flinch a lot if someone gets near my face and I can see doing this having the same affect.

my step mom use to spray water in my face or dump a cup of water over my head, whenever her and i where fighting, it was ice cold water too, i hated it, but i listened! it was better than being physically abused by my biological mother!
Add On: Just to let you know i don't spray water in my daughters face as a form of displine, i have tried it a few times, but my daughter loves water and she would just laugh and enjoy it! I also dont and will never physically abuse my daughter. makeing her sit in time out or sending her to her room is a good enough displine!

this is not an acceptable form of dicipline. That is how you train animals. that could cause the fear of water among other things. i would never do that to my child. I use the naughty spot technique (before i even knew it as that) and spanks are a last resort.

consistancy is the biggest part of good dicipline.

If you were the one getting sprayed in the face how much would you like it? Not much I'd assume. So I would'nt do that to anyone or anything.

I use it on my cats, but I can't see doing it to my child. I would find a better way to discipline a human being.

It seems pretty demeaning to me to use as discipline. I think my kids would think it was a game, they love playing with water.

My husband talked about doing that with our daughter before she was born and I told him that if he did I would kick his ****. Well, once she was born he realized that he loved her so much that he couldn't treat her like a cat.

It's just plain wrong to degrade your child in that manner.
