what could this be, is it normal for puppies and is there a home remedy or do I take her to the vet? Other than that she is a very happy and spoiled puppy. She doesnt even know when the smelly stuff comes so I think it cant be that she is sick or anything.

That happened to one of my dogs one time. I think the vet gave her something. She might have an infection inside of her body. Call the vet to make sure!

I disagree... your problem does not sound like anal glands. Anal glands do need to be expressed in some dogs, but anal glands are not considered discharge. Anal glands are typically expressed when dogs have a bowel movement but in smaller breeds typically do need at vet to express their gland for them.

Now for your question....Sounds like an infection where you should call your vet to have it checked out. Animals are much tougher than humans and very rarely show discomfort or pain which is why you think she's not sick. Some antibiotics prescribed by your veterinarian should help!! The vet will need to examine the puppy to see which antibiotic or treatment is appropriate. Also make sure flies don't get around your puppy while she has the infection or they may lay eggs around that area!! Good luck!

You'll need to contact your vet for an apt. Ask for a technician to check/ empty the dogs anal glands. They maybe full. Happens and is not hard to empty.

When the dog goes in for shots time to time, that would be an area to ask them to check so you don't have to pay twice. You can learn how to do it but i'd have it checked to be sure you know the diagnosis for it.

Sometimes, they can have a infection back there so you really need to see a vet for it this time and if it happens again... then you just get the meds or know what to do.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like some type of infection.
I would srtongly recomend that your get an appointment with your vet and let hem get a full exam on your pet.
Anal glands do not need to be expressed every five to seven days and they do not make any sort of discharge unless you are expressing them or the dog is having a bowel movment.

My teacup was scooting across the floor on her butt and we took her to the vet, she had to have her glands expressed. They say this is quite common in small dogs and very important that you take the puppy to the vet to have it done!

Are you sure it's not her anal glands? They emit a foul smelly stuff that has to be drained every once in a while. You should take her in, just in case. If it's coming from her female parts then that is really not normal.

Best of luck:)

does she scoot on the carpet? does it have a fishy smell? if so she may need her anal glands expressed, a vet of well qualified groomer can do this.
