Of coarse back then they didn't have modern day plumbing like we do today but they did have soap. they would bath in a river or stream. The ancient Egyptians were very hygienic.

A little later on the Romans actually had a sewer system where all of their toilets were all connected to one stream with lead the waste out of the city. I don't think they had showers though. However, when the barbarians invaded and took Rome over in the fifth century they also got rid of the plumbing too. So it had to be re-invented later on.

They did wash, yes, but their baths were in streams and such. They couldn't wash often, though, so yes, they did stink a lot. But, the people were used to it, and didn't really think much of it. It was part of life. You washed when you had the chance, but other than that, you smelled. (just like a farmer who doesn't notice pig manuer, the people then wouldn't notice the stink).

Also keep in mind that you're talking Abraham, and the Jews, they weren't Romans, and didn't bathe like the Romans did.

Yes and no.
Some cicvilaztions did take baths, some didn’t. Middle East people did, but in the Medieval Ages it wasn’t fashionable for quite a long time. But they definitely didn’t stink because they loved perfumes.

Yes they did bathe. Archiologists have uncovered community baths in villages that date back to biblical times

*L* Considering you could smell a medieval city a few miles away, the early Christians weren't exactly a bed of roses either.

The Greeks and Romans were obsessive bathers- sometimes more than once a day! It was a social thing you did.

Of course they had baths: The Romans were masters at building warm communal baths and many still exist to this day. Men, women and children all joined in together to bathe.........

Yes

It is historical that there was running water (plumbing) in ancient Israel.

I also think that people have always needed water to survive- therefore they also had opportunity to bathe.

Most likely if a person were spiritually in tune with God and godly virtues he would also want to be physically clean.
