Why don't you Americans get out of the country and let the Iraqi's handle their own problems? Imagine your country in the Iraqi's place, would you like to be rescued by conquering hero's (actually villains with a false cause- where are the WMD's?).
And if you are dying, you are also killing, and killing unarmed civilians too. Well it's your own elected Representatives that sent you out to do the kill, what did you expect, the natives would be too terrified to shoot back?
Would your countrymen react passively to invaders?
Look at any country that the US has interfered in-they end up destroying it completely- be it Vietnam or Afghanistan or Iraq - why doesn't the US of a start minding it's own country?
On a personal note, all I can say is stay alive kid, and do let live - the Geneva convention is there and don't break the rules. You'll only end up making the world hate your country more, and that'd be a pity, for it is one of the greatest countries in the world after mine though!
I am not an Iraqi or Muslim for your info.

First of all, thank you for what you are doing in Iraq. I know it is not glamourous and at times not fun at all. I know you have seen more death and destruction in the time you have been over there than I will probably see in my lifetime. I can only imagine the pain and frustration you must feel at the treatment you have received when you came home. I agree with you. We live in society that only believes what we see on TV, the serilized version of what is really going on over there. I agree with you that the Geniva Convention has serverly limited what you as a soldier can do. However, at the same time it has limited what can be done to you. (Just food for thought...) I also agree that is BS that a military Id gets you sh*t these days. I support you and the other men and women that are over there...Stay safe (as safe as you can...) and think of the strories, good and bad that will accompany you when you are finally back for good. God Bless you!!

Why don't more soldier claim 'Conscientious Objector' Do a little time, probably three months and be done with the military? If it sucks so bad over there leave. I didn't ask you to go there, in fact I protested that you shouldn't before it began but this was for nothing obviously. At the Mall of America in D.C. the government wouldn't allow any news crew choppers in the air to film the 200,000 or so people there protesting. I don't want you or any of your friends over there to get killed. Stand up and tell the government to go **** themselves, your not going to kill any more. It worries me that you think the solution is to bypass the Geneva Convention, like this will make your life so much easier. Those rules are in place to make war somehow less psychotic. The concept of war is psychotic. Get out and go home!

What?
I'm not sure I understand your complaint. Being disrespected as a member of our military is as wrong as wrong gets. It should be a felony to mistreat any member of our military.
But I'm pretty sure I do know exactly what war is. And, throughout history, there are times when it's a necessary evil. On the other hand, it does seem like the majority of people in this forum have no idea what they're talking about when they talk about war. They act like this is the first time it has ever occurred and there were no terrorist attacks - or even terrorists at all - prior to the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq.

Most of us will agree with this. We are proud of you and we thank you for serving our country. I don't think we need to be in Iraq. I do not nor will I ever hold that against the soldiers who are in this HORRIBLE situation. I am angry with Bush. It's my opinion. My son is joining the service in one year and I'm going to be proud of him too. I don't know what you are talking about here so much except how horrible it is over there and my heart truly goes out to you. We'd take your pain away if we could. Thank you for doing your job well. It's something I personally couldn't do (but I'm old LOL). We want our soldiers home and yet at the same time we understand that we also can't "just leave" them in the dust. The US has done that before!!!

Okay... I have been there and done that too... and I am headed back again. Did I miss the actual question?? I have seven combat tours in 23 years of service. I have been shot, burnt, stabbed, ran over and spent a few months not walking from an Army parachute accident. There are alot of opinions expressed on here. I don't agree with all of them either.... but I feel I must have missed the question. Part of our job is "supporting and defending the Constitution of the United States".... that includes the 1st Amendment.
We have a tough job that many others do not fully appreciate. I appreciate your frustrations, I know where you are coming from.... but remember who you are.... A US Soldier. Remeber that most civilians don't know your pain or your frustrations.

Excuse me if I sound like an @ss, but I can‘t believe that you are b!tching and moaning about not being able to buy cigarettes with your military ID? B!itching about people expressing their opinion? You say that you are a soldier? No way, not unless you are half way soldier or the military is doing a lousy job at taking the civilian out of the soldier.
Something I realized long time ago is the fact that when you become a REAL soldier, your job is to fight and to put your life on the line to protect the rights of the people in this country, including those who didn’t sell you a pack of cigarettes or those who disagree about your little Iraqi war. You have no idea what a real war is like. Vietnam my friend, that was a war!
You are crying and moaning about what people say about your current little war in Iraq? Try going to a war where more people died on a couple of days than in the whole duration of your little war. Let me make it really clear that I’m NOT disrespecting any of those soldiers who have died for this country in Iraq or those soldier who are proudly fighting and representing this nation. For those men and women who have and are, in this war or any other war, I salute them and their families. I’m talking to you! If you are really a soldier, tuff it out and become a real soldier. If you are not, stop disrespecting those who are, and that are sacrificing themselves for you.
You complaint about people not selling you a pack of cigarettes or opening their mouths to say dumb things about the war, how about coming back to your country after Vietnam and being physically spit onto, things thrown at you, and people calling you names that Yahoo won’t let me type in here. You have no idea what real war and being stabbed on the back by your fellow country men is like. I'll give you the same advice that it was given to us over and over…“SHUT UP AND TAKE IT LIKE A SOLDIER BOY!

You have all of my respect and Thank you for defending our country although I wish there wouldn't have been a war, but I really do admire you and yes, you are a hero and people here in the US should treat you as such. Not everyone is willing to give up their life for their country. I believe the government should provide soldiers with way more benefits when they return from war. I read your answers for all the questions you answered under millitary. I hope you get to come back soon.

I think you should do whatever it takes to keep Americans alive, including soliders. If I had dictator powers, I would say if you see somebody who is not wearing a US military uniform you should say WHO ARE YOU once and if they do not answer shoot them. If I could save one American life this way I would shoot 100 other people, whoever they were. Because if the tables are turned and Iraq or any other power had the advantage of technology, they would smash us even harder because they resent us. Until our enemies have the resolve to put on regular army uniforms of their own and face our troops on a battlefield, every single foreigner in a place like Iraq or Somalia must be considered a potential bomber or enemy fighter, even if they are hiding their AK47 under street clothes and are 12 years old. I think your best point is when you say that you are not allowed to do what you need to do to defend yourselves. If a government puts its troops into harms way and does not let them defend themselves, that is a great atrocity.

If you are truly one of our American men or women in military service, you need to know that the overwhelmingly vast majority of Americans love you and support you. I, however do not believe that you are an American soldier. Because, the concept of disrespect toward our Armed Forces is behind us. It was a Viet Nam thing. I've never seen it anywhere at present.
If you are an American soldier, there is the heavy questioning of whether the war you are fighting in Iraq is worth putting your precious life in danger for.
And, if you are an American soldier, I don't mean to be disrespectful, but you don't write like one. You write like a foriegner who is trying to work out the English language from what he knows.
If you are a foreigner, then know this- We LOVE our troops and we pray for our troops. And many of us weep at the thought that our American sons and daughters are giving their lives for people who do not appreciate them. You wanna know what we think of our military? By God, if our military are willing to lay their life on the line for us, you better not disrespect them when we're around. Don't be messin' with our love for our troops.
We have a mess on our hands to be sure. But, don't think for one second that we don't love and respect our American men and women in the Armed Services.
