i have ocd and the best way to get rid of it is to ignore it. keep ur mind busy 24/7 u can't be obbsesive when your doing something else.
if you don't like 1 obbsesion try covering it with another 1
for example: lets say your obssesed with opening the door. well maybe you could just turn the door handle and leave.if you an obbsesion with swearing then say words that rhyme with the swear word
best of luck

I know of many people that have OCD. They have to have medication and therapy as well. Medications alone isn't enough, they have to have a certain amount of therapy too. To talk about what they are so obsessed with. But by having OCD, thru medicines and therapy, it is possible to lead a good healthy life.
A dear friend of mine has had this disease for almost 10 yrs. He is very successful in the organization of NAMI. He counsels people that are first diagnosed with this disease and he is actively involved in LTSR's (Long Term Structured Residential's)
Just because you have OCD, doesn't mean your life is over. Find yourself a good psychiatrist and ask him or her what medications you can take for it. Tell your doctor what meds you were on before and tell him or her how they made you feel. Doctors are not mind readers, they depend solely on what their patients tell them. Be honest with all your symptoms and feelings. Your doctor may suggest group therapy or one on one therapy too.
Good luck and I hope you are feeling better soon!
I hope I was of some what helpful.

You can try to find a cognitive behavioral therapist. However, cognitive behavioral therapy may work better in conjunction with medication (with some people). Here's some info:
This form of psychological treatment involves retraining your thought patterns and routines so that compulsive behaviors are no longer necessary. One approach in particular is called exposure and response prevention. The therapy involves gradually exposing you to a feared object or obsession and teaching you different ways to deal with it, rather than performing your anxiety-reducing ritual or compulsion. During the course of treatment, your symptoms gradually decrease in frequency and intensity. Learning the techniques and new thought patterns takes effort and practice, but it's worth it. Most people with obsessive-compulsive disorder show improvement of signs and symptoms with cognitive behavior therapy.
Cognitive behavior therapy may be especially helpful for children and adolescents with obsessive-compulsive disorder. A study published in the Oct. 27, 2004, issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association found that almost 40 percent of children receiving cognitive behavior therapy had a significant reduction in symptoms, while only about one in five children taking antidepressant medication alone did. However, the study found that the most effective treatment was combining cognitive behavior therapy with antidepressant medication. Almost 60 percent of the children in the study receiving the combination treatment reported remission of their symptoms.
It's important to find a therapist who is well trained in cognitive behavior therapy. Ask your doctor for a recommendation or contact the Obsessive-Compulsive Foundation at (203) 401-2070.
Cognitive behavior therapy isn't for everyone, though. As many as one in four people with obsessive-compulsive disorder refuses this treatment because it can be difficult.

you need to contact a therapist who is specialized in "BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION TECHNIQUES". please note that not all medication have a sedative quality to them and there is no shame in taking them if you need to.
