Brushing two times a day for two minutes at a time & flossing once a day. Going to the dentist for regular cleanings is the best though. You can only clean your teeth so well at home & it is up to those at the dental office to take care of the rest.

Flossing daily is the best way to prevent/treat gingivitis. If you haven't been flossing everyday, then you're gums are going to bleed when you first start. After about a week of flossing everyday, the bleeding should stop. Proper flossing involves sliding the floss gently under the gums and scraping the side of your tooth with the floss. And remember to floss behind the very back teeth. You should also be brushing 2-3 times daily. When you brush, hold the bristles at a 45 degree angle toward your tooth with the bristles pointing toward your gums. Very gently jiggle the brush where some of the bristles go under your gums. This helps remove plaque that hides below the gumline, which is what is responsible for gingivitis. And you can also use Listerine. It does have alcohol, so it burns and it can make your mouth feel dry. Crest Pro-Health Rinse says it does the same as Listerine without the alcohol (no burning, no dry mouth), but it is new and has not been studied enough to prove that it's as good as Listerine. Regular dental cleanings are also very important because once plaque turns into calculus (tartar), it can only be removed by a dentist or hygienist. As long as you have calculus, the bacteria in plaque stay in close contact with your gums and keep your gums infected. I know you don't want to go to the dentist, but it is important so I have to mention it. Just remember that daily flossing is the best way to keep your teeth.

You have to brush and floss daily, Especially floss! Just brushing doesn't get all the plaque buildup at the gum line. If you don't floss you can get pockets in your gumline which in time will turn into a hard substance called tarter. The longer it goes untreated the more your gums will recede and you can loose bone, that leads to loose teeth and well you can guess what would happen from there. Also rinsing your mouth with Listerine everyday will help kill germs. I know all too well just how much Gum disease can do to your mouth. Please if you take anything I said seriously then at least floss that's THE MOST IMPOTANT THING YOU CAN DO TO SAVE YOUR SMILE.

Brush your teeth more often and don't eat all that sugar. If you don't brush that's how you get gingivitis. Also you might get tartar if you don't brush if tartar appears then brush the part where the tartar is if it forms then you have to go to the dentist to get it scraped off. Flossing is also a great way to get food out between your teeth that your tooth brush can't.

Rub your gums with salt daily. My friends mom is a dental hygienist. Also when you brush your teeth, remember to also brush your gums.
