Well, it could be just because you are having fun and you get caught up in it and end up drunker than you had planned. Or, it is possible you may have a drinking problem. People have the misconception that you have to drink OFTEN to be an alcoholic but actually people who binge once a week can also be labeled as an alcoholic.
Why don't you try staying in on a Saturday night or go out and not drink so much. See if you can do it and you will have your answer!

I honestly think you need to ask yourself a very big question...
Why do you drink??? Is it because everyone else is? Do you feel the only way to have a good time is to drink? some people are just followers and drink because everyone else is doing it.
I hope this is not your reason for drinking, but I will tell you one thing it is very common to see young people at the club drinking hard and fast trying to look cool then a little while later they are in the corner throwing up and passing out.and usually have made an *** out of themselves. You need to figure out why you are doing this. Then if you truly do not have the willpower to control yourself when you go out let your friends and the bartender know your limit, like you could say ok guys tonight I am only going to have 4 drinks no more ok,If they are true friends they will help you with no problems. Please forgive me if I sound rude this is not my intention, just my opinion,I hope it can help shed some light to your problem.

Are you drinking on an empty stomach?
This could cause you to get drunk faster then your friends.
You could be also drinking more then them.
Your size matters as well.
A 100 pound girl cannot drink as much as a 150 pound male.

Yes. Your metabolism is not responding well to the alcohol. If you can't control it much better, it's time to stop. Did you ever get checked for diabetes? This is common for those of us who are shall we say - not in our 20s any more. Be thankful you got the warning signal from your body before it turned into something much worse.

A social drink might be okay with your friends. But if one drink makes you drunk then thats one drink to many.

that's a question you need to ask yourself, though most people that i know who drink too much are either:
a. alcoholics
b. trying to drown other feelings/thoughts/issues
c. making up for shyness and social discomfort
or all of the above.

for every 2 drinks you have have at least one glass of water before you drink anymore, or eat something, this will help absorb the alcohol.
