It takes alot more than just saying "the sinner's prayer". There is no "magic formula". If you realize that you are sinner, in desparate NEED of a Savior, and take your broken heart to Jesus, He'll take it from there.
What do you think it means to be "saved"?
Tell us, what cacamaymee things do YOU believe?

It's not just mouthing the words, you have to believe and then live your life in service to Christ. The sinner's prayer is just a starting point.

It is not up to us, but the person saying the prayer. If you said it, and meant it, you wouldn't be asking this. But since you are, believe with all your heart, and you will be saved. Good question.

What about the thief on the cross? In essence, he said a sinners prayer. And Jesus promised him eternal life.

The "sinners prayer" is just a bunch of words. On the other hand, if spoken with sincerity and a repentant desire, it does several things:
1. Acknowledges that you are a sinner destined for hell....and God as holy -- set apart.
2. Acknowledges that God exists and is your Creator, and above you in all things and ways...yet loves you unconditionally, and desires that you not perish.
3. Acknowledges that you cannot earn your way into eternal life and fellowship with Him...you must accept God's gift to you of His Son's sacrifice, i.e. Jesus Christ's death, and His resurrection through faith.
4. Therefore you ask the Lord to forgive your sins - the thing that seperates us from God - and enter into an eternal personal relationship with Christ.
These are just words. But to those who say them with sincerity and faith in Christ, they are life-changing. At that moment, your sins before the Father have been paid for by Jesus. You are then justified before God. You are called a child of God, and inherit the kingdom of God. As in Rev. 20, 21 states, when Jesus Christ is revealed in the last days, the faithful will have exceeding joy, for their salvation will be made complete.
The prayer is step 1 in a lifetime pursuit of God. From that point on, you desire to seek God and God in turn is with you. The miracles in my life alone leave little room for unbelief. These things, however, are often dismissed as hogwash to unbelievers whose hearts are hardened and world rather dismiss, reason away, or ignore. But, I know with certainty where I will be in eternity...I have little to fear, except the healthy fear of God. And...it all started with a little prayer I felt compelled to pray over 27 years ago...called the sinners prayer.
Life is all about choices...there are good ones and bad ones. This topic is all about making a choice...a choice to have faith in Jesus Christ as Lord...and Lord of your life. Despite God's desire and love for you, He will not coerce you in any way to have faith. On the other hand, if you choose not to have faith, your fate is as certain as mine...but not quite as pleasant.

I think it depends on what's in the persons heart, whether they really mean it or not, and only God knows a persons heart... who are we to say that they are or are not saved?

If they mean it yes, but if they just say for the heck of it NO! Being saved is so much more than that.
