By only looking at a goat's head, how do you tell the difference between a nanny goat and a billy goat?

You can sometimes tell by the size of the horns. Usually mature bucks will have much larger and longer horns than females. It doesn't always work, though, because some people dehorn their goats and also some goats are polled (naturally have no horns). Sometimes the bucks do have larger beards, but not always. I have one buck with no beard at all, and a few of my does have long beards.

The mascara answer really isn't that far off! ha ha I heard of a lady putting it on her doe's lashes at a National Show, showing goats itself is sorta a wierd hobby, but that puts it over the edge! Alright, honestly, both male and female goats have horns and beards. But an intact (you guys can figure out what is still intact) male's beards take up a majority of the head and sometimes start from the eyes down. Where as a doe's (and a wether's--- fixed males) is generally just under the chin. Beyond that you have to look for "femaninity" and "masculinity"... by definition those terms are being able to tell if an animal is male or female by the head only. Having the "correct" term is actually an indication of a well-bred animal. So if you can't tell if "Pat" is a boy or girl you might not want to shell out big bucks for.... it!
