Amanda, If this car is in good condition, without too many miles on it now...Maintain it properly and it should last a LONG time. I have seen many escorts with well over 200,000 miles on them still running. Lets think for a minute...the average adult drives about 12,000 miles/year. You will probably drive less as a student...so for easy math lets go with 10,000 miles/year. hmmm...16...so you will be a Junior? thats 2 years of high school..and figure 5 years of college. So, the idea is to get this car to last another 70,000 miles!

If the car has average miles on it currently, it should be at about 85,000 miles. Will your Escort still be on the road at 155,000 miles? It probably will!

One thing to keep in mind about higher mileage cars. And no matter what the Jap car lovers tell you...This is true of ALL modern cars. Automatic Transmissions usually die between 130,000-170,000. Some die sooner...some last longer. It just depends on how many miles are highway versus city and the driving habits of the owner. Having the transmission fluid changed every 30,000 miles helps, but it is expensive...like 70 bucks! to have it changed.

MOST automatic transmissions cost between 1250-1800 to replace when they die. Most vehicles (including your escort) will only be worth about $1500.00 when the transmission dies! So the cost effectiveness of the repair is not good and most people send it to the salvage yard at this time.

Your Escort SHOULD last through college, however, if the transmission dies in your junior year of college dont be surprised....just throw it away and buy another one! Good Luck!

If your car is a Manual transmission...It will be fine! Just budget about 500 bucks to replace the clutch eventually!

It depends on several different factors. such as, the miles put on it going there and back, how hard you drive it, how well you maintain proper car care, and the condition it is in now. However, we can't predict its future of life's little fender benders! My son has a 2002 ZX2, for him its been a great ticket getter, but he loves it! He's had it almost 2 yrs. It does cost alot to fix it or get parts for it, and then its usually a big headache fixing it!

Don't let him worry you, yea maybe a towtruck company number would be handy, but that applies to all cars. I personally think that a car like that can get anyone through highschool and college but thats just me. Depends if you're a reckless driver, if you go and party with friends and stuff like that. Use the car wisely all it needs is one collision and youve got yourself a piece of scrap metal. But in the end if you play it smart and efficient that car could go a bit farther than high school and college!

It should, provided that its well taken care of. You know, be real regular on the service, its not a joke w/ the 3 months or 3000 miles for oil change. Keep it clean because dirt DOES corrode the car. And dont drive like a maniac, because its not a race car, heck even race cars need to be rebuilt every race (literally down to the last bolt, engine is torn down). You take care of it like its fragile, it should last for a heck of a lot longer than you think.

It should do that, but you have to make sure it's in perfect condition. Take the car to a mechanic to make _absolutely_ certain you don't have any nasty and unexpected surprises when you drive the car around from high school until you graduate from college. Other than that, have fun with that car! You'll look cool in it!

I would say absolutely, as long as you take care of it. I have friends with Escorts that have lasted FOREVER and well over 200,000 miles. I dont like American car companies, but I would buy a Ford Escort with confidence.

As with any car, it mostly depends upon how many miles are currently on it and how well it's been maintained. Typical mileage on a 4 cyl that's been maintained before it needs major work is 110,000 - 140,000.
