My son is 2 and is not potty trained what should i do?

I have tried and tried to get my son potty trained before he starts school in August, but he will do it for a week and then stops. He doesn't ask to go to the potty when he is out with my parents or at the babysitters, he only goes when i am around but i have to keep asking him.

He is 2 1/2 and most of the kids his age are already potty trained

Quit worrying about it. Kids develop at different ages. My oldest one was potty trained at two while my oldest one did not start till 3 1/2. Give him time and he will get to where he wants to go. I'll tell you though what made a difference with my oldest one though. Every time his daddy went to the bathroom he took him with him and talked about peeing like a big boy. Make sure you stress the big boy part. Then we also put Cheerios in the toilet and told him it was a game and for him to try to sink them. I've leaved that if there are two things kids love 1. is being able to be older than what they are and 2. playing games

Try not to push him or yourself so hard. It's not unusual to not be potty trained at 2. In fact, many professionals advise that parents not start training until 2 or even 3, depending on if the child is ready. Do some online research (maybe ivillage.com) or check out some parenting magazines from the library, and you will see that you are not alone. that's whay potty training is in the beginning....just asking and asking until they start to learn how to tell you.
it's kind of like potty training a puppy. you take them outside every 30 min just in case and you watch their actions inside to indicate if they need to go out.

so, i would keep up with what you're doing at home and remind you family that when they have him to ask often if he needs to go.
make sure you make a big deal about it when he goes potty..."wow, you did it!!! that's so great!!! you're a big boy!!!" even reward him with a treat each time he goes potty.
the more exciting it is, the more he will want to participate.

if he's used to just going in his diaper, then he won't ask to go yet...it takes time....and they still get sidetracked and forget sometimes.
my neice is almost 4 and was going to the bathroom a few weeks ago. she went into the bathroom and before actually going on the potty she decided to put on some lipgloss...well, she was so distracted by her mirror time, that she had an accident!!! it happens, don't yell at them about it, just let them know that they should have paid more attention and they will feel emabarassed enough by their wet pants.

To try and get your son potty trained, offer him something like a toy or a teat if he does it. Also what I have I heard is if you put a chart in the bathroom, and if you get stickers, the days that he goes put a sticker on that day, don't keep asking him because he will get upset

u have to use different ways.stop asking him and when he do it tell him that u wont give him any more toys if he keeps doing it. u can get fisherprice b=potty training it has a chart and stars when the baby use the potty u add a start to his chart that will encourage him to go again and again. buy him even a chep toy every time he asks u to use the bath room.that will help too. tell him people will say u r a bad boy when u do it in ur pants.i know it is hard but u have to try. i have twins so i know it is gonna be so hard on me but i should do it oneday. good luck

Your son is only two, and boys are harder to train than girls. If you stress him about it, he definitely will not go. Try to get him to set on the potty when you think that he will go. It may help to sit it in front of the tv for his favorite shows. Try to come up with a small and inexpensive reward.

My son is 2 1/2 and still in the process of being potty trained. They do it when they're ready.. try not to push it. Instead, try making it a fun thing. Reward him everytime he goes by clapping your hands and saying "YAY! You did it"
