I guess it's not really lying but stretching the truth. They don't want to hurt you by telling you the truth but it actually hurts more when you have to find out afterwards. Is this just pre-programmed in them? Is it forgiveable?

In many cases it is a sign of a lack of maturity on the guy's part. Low self esteem is another reason. The longer you are with him and the more confidence he gets in the relationship the less he will do it.

I don't thinks it's forgivable. For them it's an easy way out. They think we can't take the truth or something. If he has to lie to you he's not very mature. MOVE ON.

It is a sign of cowardice. They don't have the guts to face you with the truth so they tell little lies to get themselves out of a situation.
