Acutally the military is better for many women than civilian life. The training and advancement oppertunities are the best they have ever been for females. There are restrictions on serving in Special Forces, Submarines, and most ground Combat units. But they are females on most ships, flying planes, and holding command ranks through out the world. How many Fortune 500 firms can say that???

it isn't discrimination, that is interior of reason to the safe practices of america to placed the most qualified individual contained in the desirable interest. I actually were contained in the military for 14 years, I made E-8 MSG/1SG in 12, in case you comprehend something about the military this became extremely quick. I did this in a job potential it really is ruled by men, i became hated by maximum at each unit i became assigned too. that is demanding to be a lady in a male ruled interest; notwithstanding, in case you do your interest properly it is going to ultimately pay you back. base line is that no longer all jobs were made for women and those which will be performed to a similar referred to as men were opened up to females. The shy away is that that is a demanding highway, inspite of if women were allowed in, the boys there do no longer favor them, you're plausible or purely flat out cause them to uncomfortable, no individual likes replace!! As on your very last reality, I do carry a gun and fireplace it properly!

Gee, I didn't know we were discriminated against. When my mom was in, I know that she was discriminated against because they had just started letting females enter her job field and the men felt threatened, especially when they found out my mom was better at it than a lot of them. I have felt to discrimination since joining and I have no idea where you got that idea from.

I liked women in the Military, they were usually in shape and they put out. They usually had jobs in the hospitals on base and I would much rather have my blood pressure taken form a girl than a fat old major.

I read on CNN about this woman who denied to go to Iraq the 2nd time and had an arrest warrent Issued against her for the same reason. She claimed that she was treated badly and sexually approached and that I was not a good time.

A FEMALE US soldier has refused to serve in Iraq, accusing some superiors of using the war zone as a pretext for sexual harassment.

In what is believed to be the first case of a soldier refusing to serve because she feared sexual harassment, Suzanne Swift, 21, said she did not join her unit when it left for a second tour of duty in Iraq because it meant a return to a regime of harassment.

"It was like their goal to get someone to be their girl for their deployment and usually they wanted someone lower ranking so they could have the upper hand or control," Specialist Swift said.

The decision to go public in her charges against three of her superiors is rare in the US military, where veteran advocates say women risk retribution if they complain of harassment. But she joins a growing number of US troops who are refusing service in Iraq. The Pentagon says 4400 soldiers are absent without leave. Soldiers' advocates believe the true number is far higher.

Specialist Swift was arrested at her mother's home in Oregon on June 11, five months after her unit left for Iraq. She was returned to Fort Lewis, Washington, where she could face desertion charges. Her sexual harassment complaints are part of the investigation.

The soldier says the mistreatment began soon after she enlisted at 19, lulled by the assurances of recruiters that she would never find herself in a war zone. Less than a year later, she was on her way to Karbala, in southern Iraq, one of three women in her company.

She said she was propositioned soon after her arrival in Kuwait in February 2004, and the harassment became unrelenting.

Since the eve of the invasion of Iraq in 2003, some 508 women in the military have complained of sexual assault, says the Miles Foundation, an advocacy group.
